Thankfully, I am fortunate to work for a newspaper that cares and takes pride in its photography, and so we are all provided with Canon gear tailored to each of our shooting styles. If you can make do with what BYU-H provides you, more power to you! :) Remember, the camera is merely a tool--the vision is 90% of it, and the tool is the other 10. Tyg, Thanks so much! For a while I was carrying it around as my walk-around lens as I had sold my 28-135mm. I have probably taken 5,000 shots with it. It takes a bit to get the hang of it because it is a f/ 5.6, but once you do, you will not hesitate to use it for a lot of other things. On the 5D I have even used it for portrait pics and they turned out great. As for the 1.4 extender, I know 2 fellows that have used it.
