Hi All!

Came across this the other day, and I realized how lucky we are to be able to see rainbows here in Hawaii.

Waikele resident Ken Miyaji casts his line as a rainbow is seen over downtown Honolulu on Monday, May 24, 2010 at Keehi Lagoon near the Airport. (Jamm Aquino/Honolulu Star-Bulletin).

Lucky? Rainbow happen due to light reflecting from water vapor hanging in air. At least around Hilo, rainbow happen nearly everyday. Luck would be involved if rainbow producing conditions were rare.

Nonetheless, I do spend few minutes marvelling at a rainbow whenever I get a chance.

Thanks for the technical explanation on rainbows. When I say lucky, it’s because I don’t take things like rainbows for granted. I’ve spent some time abroad and didn’t really appreciate little details like rainbows or the fact that the ocean here is actually blue and not some drab gray-green.
