The $3 million dollar Harlequin fantasy bra Damiani created for Victoria’s Secret arrived in Honolulu yesterday and will be on view at Damiani’s Ala Moana Center boutique through Jan. 10, 2010.
The bra debuted during the Victoria’s Secret Christmas Dreams & Fantasies fashion show Dec. 1, adding to the glittery, over-the-top spectacle while demonstrating the craftsmanship of the 85-year-old Italian jewelry house. Creating the bra took a team of 15 artisans in Valenza, Italy, who worked spent more than 800 hours at the task.
The base of the diamond bra is the Victoria’s Secret Very Sexy Convertible bra which can be worn five ways. Each link of the intertwining 18-karat gold harlequin patterned net affixed to the bra was mounted individually to moves independently, adjusting to the body, while staying in place.
Once the frame of the bra was assembled, it was embellished with 2,355 white and cognac diamonds set by hand, for a total of nearly 150 carats. The accent of the piece is a rare 16-carat, heart-shaped diamond, in a champagne color.
The black satin under piece that lines the bra can be removed, allowing it to be mounted onto another type of bustier or on an evening gown. But for most of us, it’s not a concern. We’ll be able to look, but not touch.
