‘Project Runway’ Season 9 casting

March 30th, 2011

Here are some notices that would not fit into tomorrow’s paper for lack of space. That just means you get it earlier:

“Project Runway” Season 9: Casting coordinator Bob Massey is on the lookout “for great under-exposed designers to feature on the show” and given the recent Top 3 performances of Hawaii’s Jay Sario and Andy South, he specified they are looking forward to hearing from lesser-known Hawaii designers.

Up for grabs is still that prize of $100,000 to launch your own fashion line, and of course, the opportunity to show at New York Fashion Week.

The deadline to receive applications is April 15. Apply at www.bunim-murray.com/prcasting or email prcasting@bunim-murray.com. (If you have trouble loading the website he suggests to try using a browser other than Internet Explorer.)

Sanrio Day of Donation: In friendship and to help aid in relief of those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Sanrio has designated March 31, 2011, as a “Day of Donation.” On that day, Sanrio.com and participating Sanrio boutique will donate all net proceeds to the American Red Cross to benefit Japan earthquake and Pacific tsunami relief efforts.

The Mia.

Have Mia will travel: Sephora has teamed up with Bliss and Clarisonic for a trio of events to prepare you for the warmer months ahead. With the summer often comes more exposure to U.V. rays, as well as more exposure to pore-clogging elements. Beauty experts will be sharing the Mia, the portable Clarisonic device for gentle exfoliation of skin, as well as Bliss’ new sunscreen products. Demonstrations will take place on the following dates:

April 3: At Sephora Pearlridge, from noon to 5 p.m. Call 487-0660 to make an appointment.

April 16: At Sephora Ala Moana, noon to 5 p.m. Call 808 944-9797 for an appointment.

April 20: At Sephora Kalakaua, 5 to 10 p.m. Call 923-8298 for an appointment.

For a swimwear designer in Hawaii, Suzanna Kuhlemann of 1979 is ahead of the curve. While others fight over the teenie-weenie bikini market, she intends to steer people back to the retro glamour of the high-waisted bikini bottom and pinup-style maillots, presented her Summer 2011 swimwear collection at Ala Moana Center on March 25.

The stage was set with the pastels of Easter flowers and the audience was swept back in time by swimsuit styles reminiscent of World War II pinup girls and 1950s Hawaii, when the prevailing look was more classy than trashy. That’s when beach-going or poolside leisure was the province of the wealthy rather than college kids on spring break.

The models varied in height and size to demonstrate how the suits might look on a real spectrum of body types, and the show itself was short, sweet and sassy.
