Luxe Link a purse lover’s dream

By Nadine Kam

luxelink

The homepage for Luxe Link shows how they work.

Sales in luxury handbags have been booming over the last few years, but restaurateurs have been slow to acknowledge this trend, leaving me wishing they would be more considerate and have purse hooks under their tables. Over at Uncle Bo’s, there are hooks at the bar. And I was so happy when I went to Renoir in Las Vegas, where purses were accommodated on their own little cushioned foot stool. But that is a rarity. Most restaurants leave women with no option other than to place their precious Louis Vuitton, Prada or Chanel purses on, gasp!, the floor. Can you say “ick”?

This need not be the case. Former Hawaii resident Kalika Yap is introducing her Luxe Link to the purse-carrying public. It’s a compact circular device surrounded by a chain link that opens and attaches to table or counter tops to allow women to raise their purses off the ground anywhere, any time, with style. It is a godsend for anyone who loves purses. I carried one with me all over New York, where even the best restaurants had women placing their handbags on the floor. Waiters male and female everywhere noticed the Luxe Link and were duly impressed. “Someone’s going to make a fortune with that,” a male waiter at Nice/Matin told me.

Calling the Luxe Link “your must-have purse accessory,” Kalika hopes women will want to carry one in all your favorite purses. Sure beats switching off contents for those who change purses every day. There’s been many times I’ve left home without driver’s license and cash and fished around for my AWOL Luxe Link.

The Luxe Links cost $35 to $59 and you can take a look at them at www.luxelink.com. You can also read more about it in my story at www.starbulletin.com.

For loyal Fashion Tribe followers this may be your lucky day. Kalika has graciously sent over 8 of her Luxe Links to be given away through this blog. One is reserved for uber-commentator-blogger the supercw. Others can add their comment under this posting. Describe your handbag, its color and why you need a Luxe Link and you just may receive one in the mail. Each comes in a box with a soft pouch to carry in your purse. No pokey hooks to deal with!

Hi. Not sure if I can ‘qualify’ for this but I can tell you that my girlfriend surely would. I am writing on her behalf since she probably hasn’t even seen this article on this ingenious device yet.
You can take my word for it that being the owner of many(MANY, MANY) bags that deserve the pampering and care that the Luxe link will provide, my girlfriend would surely appreciate it. :)
Such a simple and stylish, yet brilliant and ingenious idea! Kudos to Luxe Links and Kalika!

  2. Rochelle Says:

This is just what I’m looking for! I’ve seen the “hooks” currently available on the market and thought they are a great idea. I’ve hesitated to buy one because I’m afraid it will get caught on some of the junk I carry in my bag. I like the fact that the Luxe Link wraps into a disk or can hang from the purse handle. I look forward to seeing one of these in the “flesh”.

  3. Pat Abear Says:

Having exhausted buying Coach and Dooney & Bourke handbags, I recently found a beautiful but inexpensive bag by Kathy Van Zealand which is a brownish bronze with gold straps and …chains. If that doesn’t make a young woman of 68 years feel (in mind) like a teenager and frivalous, I don’t know what will.

As your article stated, finding a place to put your bag while out has always been a problem and now it can be solved, in style.

This is something I’ve been waiting a long time for (and am envious I didn’t think of this first)! I have quite a few leather or suede Coach purses, but I’m always hesitant to place it on the floor because you just don’t know what’s down there or what will eventually be spilled on the floor by the end of dinner. That is especially the case with my light camel suede purse. I almost always end up hooking the straps over one knee through most of the meal so the purse never touches the ground, but that sometimes leaves me uncomfortable through the entire meal.

  7. Alice Says:

what a neat idea. wuld love to have one of the luxe links.

  8. jane harvey Says:

Thank you for the chance of a lifetime. I
am a working mother (at 69) with 3 grown daughters who would be so surprised to see their mom in a new FASHIONABLE handbag with
the newest STYLE and TRICK - not to mention
the lawers and ladies at the workplace!

    Thank you again, Jane

  9. Helen Moenoa Says:

Love these! I think they are so fab! I like the idea that they can change with the outfit, event, and mood you are in.

  10. Helen Moenoa Says:

Love these! & Love all the different designs too! I total want to get several for different events, bags and outfits.

  11. Jenn W. Says:

I so need one of these. I have a lot of handbags but the one i use the most is a shopper tote from louis vuitton because it holds all my stuff and more. i hate having to put my bag on the floor or on the table cuz it takes up so much space..hence why I would looove to have a luxe link!

  12. Bernie Ortiz Says:

Just beautiful. I remember having a “purse hanger” many years ago and found it to be quite useful although not attractive. Somehow I just gave up using it. These Luxe Links will certainly be a hit! When will I be able to purchase one in Hawaii?

  13. Carol Goto Says:

The purse hook is so beautiful and practical. I would be so happy to win one! This is an answer to my purse dreams!

  14. Carol Goto Says:

I would love to win a purse hook. The Luxe Link is an answers to my purse dreams!

  15. Carlynn Says:

Pretty! I would be concerned about security and not have my expensive handbag hanging in the aisle as shown in the photo. Perfect for hanging between me and the wall!

  16. Jenn Says:

OMG this is a totally cool accessory! It’s cute, trendy & compact. It’s going to be a must-have for the season. I have Coach (brown signature) & Tokidoki (multi color) bags that I do not like to leave on the ground, but sometimes I do. =(
I hope it comes to Hawaii soon. I’d love to “pay it forward” & let all my fashion sistahs know of this fabulous find!

  17. Lauryn Says:

    What a cute idea!
I recently bought a “bag hook” but it doesn’t seem to hang properly on the table, nor does it have these cute designs on it. These Luxe Links look like they can support a lot more weight, have a bigger hook to hold the bag and are more compact.
I have a tan Chloe Paddington bag and a black Gucci hobo.

  18. Cyril Calvo Says:

What a great idea! This is something so simple, yet so useful, and it’s one of those “how did we ever get by without one” types of things.
I’d definitely get them for my wife and mom, for starters. Very good idea!

  19. Stiletto Says:

What a great idea! Why didn’t I think of this!!? But I’m glad someone else did. Actually some friends and I chatted about this over some dim sum in the crowded restaurant last year while fussing where to unload our purses, and we brainstormed of something similar — that the restaurants should supply purse platforms for under the table, with waiters offering it to patrons to use while they dined. But this is so much better and smarter! portable, and you don’t have to count on the eatery at all.

My purse is a black leather, a bowling bag satchel, kinda big, alas, I’d love to carry those teeny purses but have trouble downsizing.

    (Do I get the prize?)

  20. Kathy Suzuki Says:

This is definitely one of those “why didn’t I think of that” items! I’ve tried many versions of the purse hanger before, include ones made from long, bent wires that took up too much room in my bag, or were too weak to carry more than a demi bag. I’m a mom of a toddler, so my once tiny bag has been replaced by a red hobo handbag that is chock full of stuff that I need to keep within reach. I’d love a Luxe Link so that my bag is one less thing I’ll have to pick up off the floor!

  21. Cyril Calvo Says:

Good idea! This is one of those “what did we ever do without it before” types of things. I would be very surprised if this company didn’t take off!
I would definitely get them for my wife and mom for starters, and anyone else that would need one. Very good idea!

  22. Dee Speer Says:

This is the answer to not having to worry where your purse is. Not only
does this keep it clean it will also
keep it safe. Looking forward to purchasing these as Christmas Gifts.

My current purse is a mid sized Dark Brown Leather.

    Mahalo-

    What a great idea!

  25. Vicky Hiramoto Says:

Back in the 1960-70’s, this handbag hook was used by many and is now coming back again. It’s great to use not only for your designer bags but all bags since putting them on dirty floors can harbor many germs. Bring your bag home and place it on your dinner table and you are transferring germs there as well. Gross! Good idea to use this handbag hook and these stylish ones are great gifts.

  26. ceighbree watson Says:

Great and about time! I have a goofy one that I have carried around for years…I have been teased about it so much. And that is better than leaving my purse on the dirty floor or any of the other options. This will be such an upgrade for me! And the best part…IT CLIPS TO THE PURSE!!! Way to go, girlfriend!

  27. cathy houghton Says:

I think it is a great idea

  28. Kathie Nullet Says:

This is one of those “Why didn’t I think of that” ideas. Actually, I remember my grandmother having one back in the 1960’s. It is a perfect way to keep you expensive and not so expensive handbag off of the dirty floor. I’ve seen some on the web by Pursesitter, but the Luxelink seems to be a better quality.

  29. ceighbree watson Says:

I have a Coach bag and would just LOVE the dragonfly Luxe Link!

  30. Kathie Nullet Says:

I didn’t finish my comment when the screen clicked off, Anyway, great idea.

My purse is a light tan Coach handbag, that is getting very dirty on the bottom. I would love a Luxelink for my handbag to use at restaurants, meetings and other gatherings

  31. 2002esq Says:

Definitely one of the better inventions I’ve seen in a while! I’m currently carrying the Louis Vuitton Damier Azur Speedy 30 and it pains me to think about resting this pristine white bag on the sticky floor of a restaurant. So far, I’ve resorted to keeping it on my lap, then gingerly placing a napkin on top to prevent food from spilling on it during my meal.

A Luxe Link would solve my woes! :)

I have a Coach patchwork Bag…and would LOVE the “Blue Skye” because dragonflies are good luck for me!

I’m currently carrying a Louis Vuitton Damier Azur Speedy 30 and it pains me to think about setting it down on a sticky restaurant floor. I’ve resorted to keeping it on my lap, then gingerly placing a napkin atop, lest any food drop on (or in!) it.

A Luxe Link would be a great solution to my woes!

  35. Celise Nakakura Says:

I love the designs! I’ve always hated having to put my purse on the floor but sometimes had no choice. I’ve had other hooks, but there were very flimsy and could not handle my bag.

I would give these as birthday gifts for all my girlfriends!

I have a Monogram Matte Louis Vuitton. It is tall and narrow but has enough room to hold my makeup bag, wallet, camera, phone, etc. I can’t live without it!

Please, pretty please, I’d love to win a Luxe Link! Thank you!

  36. Nina Says:

I love it! I always have this problem - I never want to put my bag on the floor and always end up putting it behind me on my seat, which means I can never lean back. It’s really annoying. What a great idea! And it looks great as a purse accessory too. :)

  37. Nina Says:

Hmm…I’m not sure my previous comment got posted…

Anyways, I think this is a great idea too and actually really handy. I never like putting my purse on the floor and always end up leaning back on it in my chair, which is really uncomfortable. It also looks like a great purse accessory too! :)

  38. kelliiiii Says:

this is such a fabulous idea! i’m so tired of holding my purse in my lap while eating scared to put it down on the disgusting floors of restaurants.

so when is she going to start selling it in hawaii stores?

my handbag is bronze, shoulder bag style, with plenty of room for me to hold all my necessary accessories like lip gloss. (:
i wish i could use my white handbag more, but i’ll just have to wait until i get a luxe link.

  39. gayle Says:

I want to know where they are available, a friend of mine bought one and loves it!
I have a “Harajuku Lover” beige canvas purse, which I love but don’t like to place on the floor, for obvious reasons…

  40. Sistah J Says:

OMG I just love this accessory! And that “blossom” style one? Fabulous! It’s cute, practical & compact. Plus its not bulky like those other hooks. I have Coach (signature brown) & Tokidoki (multi color) bags which I do put on the ground often. This is great eye candy for any fashion diva!

I hope we have these in Hawaii soon. I’d love to “pay it forward” & let all of my sistahs know about this fabulous accessory! Maybe I’ll gift them to some for the holidays… =)

  41. TT Says:

I remember my grnadmother always having the bulky hook type and was surprised to see it resurrected this past year. I’ve since received one as a gift and tried to use it, but had problems with it poking items in my purse. I also could not use it in restaurants with extra thick tables. This one looks like it will solve both issues. Thank you for the find!

  42. Amy Hirano Says:

What a great idea to have an upscale “hook”. Looks great.

  43. Merrissa Uchimura Says:

I absolutely LOVE the design!! I have a bag hanger for my purse, because, yeah, egads! if I were to place my Gucci on the ground, ick! The design is so compact and very different from the traditional hangers out there. I like that you can wind it up and it comes in a sleek pouch. I’d like to try it out because it’s so compact and cute…and also looks wide enough to hook on to even the thickest table edges (the traditional one I have dosen’t fit all table thicknesses).

I have a tan and brown Gucci hobo bag…very cute and I carry EVERYTHING in it…so hopefully this device can also hold up to the weight test too…which it looks like it can.

Anyway…fabulous idea and design! Love it!

  44. Davielynn Says:

Hi! I dont think I come close to being the first eight to respond, but I would just like to say that this is a great idea. My husband has been getting so upset with me because the expensive bags he’s been buying me are getting beaten up by sitting on grounds, under tables, on chairs, hanging off of chairs, etc. I think this is a wonderful thing and I would love to get one. If I can’t get one for free I would be willing to buy one, I need one that bad!!!

  45. Davielynn Says:

I apologize I forgot to say that I have a Louis Vutton and my husband refuses to let me use it everyday. He claims that all of my bags get so beaten up that he won’t let me take my new bags out of the house. Specifically for the reason that I normally don’t have anywhere to set it when I am eating, sitting, talking, moving around, etc. So, I know he would be thrilled with this and maybe now I can use my Damier Azur Louis Vutton!!!!

  46. Marites Galut Says:

hi! this is a great item. a friend of mine was given one from japan. it was a little more bulky. the design that you have is great! it takes up so much less space and doesn’s snag anything in your purse. great job!

  47. Sartorialista Says:

Oh, praises! I’ve finally found the satchel of my sartorial dreams – it’s a buttery black leather Cynthia Rowley, large enough for all my trappings plus a book or newspaper, yet not so big as to dwarf me and my outfit. Having formerly been a daily purse-changer, I’m so enamored with this bag that all the others are getting jealous Ms. Kam describes – filthy restaurant floors, sticky tables, and water-slicked bars that are not thoughtful enough to provide hooks for our lady-bags. Mahalo, Ms. Yap, for your timely invention. Should I be the lucky recipient of one of your brilliant prototypes I will flaunt it with pride (and my Cynthia Rowley will thank you).

  48. cw Says:

hahahha WOAH! i got one of these for my birthday and was too shy to say i had no idea what it was. i didn’t use it for a long time until she finally asked me if i knew what it was and i was like….. no.

now i use it all the time!!!!
look how pracitcal we are with it!:

  49. u'ilani Says:

This product is such a good idea! It’s practical and stylish at the same time! Gotta love it! Such a great idea, especially for germophobes like me, who haaate putting our beloved bags on the ground! Even though my bags aren’t designer it still freaks me out to think of all the gross stuff that could have fallen on the floor, let alone the germs you can’t see. I can’t wait to get one…hopefully they’ll be in Hawai’i stores soon!!!

  50. Jen S Says:

What a fab idea! Its one of those…Why didnt I think of that? But I’m glad Kalika is bringing this to the islands soon. We often get left out. I have a number of name brand purses that I just wouldnt dare to put on the ground, obviously for the money I (or boyfriend) spent on them. But at the same time I am a bit of a germ-a-phobe so it actually wouldnt matter how much I’ve spent on it..I’d just be thinking about how dirty its getting the second I put it down. This would come in so perfectly…and would love to get one as soon as I could! If I’m not a winner I would still love to know right away when they will be available.

  51. cyn Says:

Gosh! How inventive and yes, I want one of those! They’re stylish enough to match any of my bags! I’m one of those who tries to balance my bag on my lap whenever I’m at restaurant. I’ve been trying to downsize on the stuff I carry in my bag. This is one item I definitely want to get and use! I like your style Kelika!

  52. linda Says:

i have a brown Coach handbag and black Tignanello leather bag. i’m always placing my bags on my lap when seated at a table. am uneasy about hanging it on the back of my chair should it get stolen. the Luxe Link would be perfect in that it would keep my bag off my lap but within eyesight. it’s not only useful, but stylish too!

  53. deer Says:

    xxxoooxxxooo

  54. Elaine Hammond Says:

I have a favorite black canvas tote from the Gap. I am always looking for a safe place to put my tote where it won’t get dirty, or worse, stepped on. A Luxe Link sounds like the perfect solution to my problem and any color will go with black. Add a little glamour to my tote! Great idea that was long overdue.

  55. Marian M. Says:

The Luxe Links are beautiful works of art. I like the fact that they help keep your purse clean. I like the blue “Skye” a lot. Much success to her business.

  56. CM Says:

Everyone is very “Germ” conscious. Keeping handbags on the floor is gross!! Luxe Links are the perfect solution. Would love to have a beautifully decorated one. Thank you.

  57. Luxe Link Says:

A warm mahalo for everyone giving such great feedback to us. We thank you and are even more inspired to bring these to Hawaii. In the meantime please check out our website to order: http://www.luxelink.com or for more information. Thank you again.

    Luxe Link

  58. TD Says:

I’m a total klutz and this would be perfect for me! I never quite know where to put my purse–strap it around the chair back and it soon falls down and put it back up and then it falls again. Put it on the floor (ick!) and then hit it all night with my foot or have the wait help trip on it. Or squeeze it somewhere in the restaurant booth only to have my kids stumble all over it as they get restless. I always have an awkward feeling about what’s the “right” thing to do with my purse. And the Luxe Link would certainly put me at ease.

  59. dale yoshimura Says:

oooooooooo…hope i’m not too late…but that is awesome…no dirty bag bottoms…what a great concept to hang on the outside of my purse… and off the floor…good luck in this new adventure. thanks!

  60. Helene G.Webster Says:

I have a larger size Red LV purse given to me by my SON and with it and all my other purses I always look for somewhere other than a germy floor. I usually uncomfortably end up holding it in my lap. Just recently, my BROTHER-IN-LAW who lives in Minnesota questioned me as to why I won’t put my purse on the floor!! I replied YUCK and explained. LUXE LINKS looks absolutely gorgeous, practical and I would be pleased with any one of them that has green or brown in the color. KALIKA YAP’S LUXE LINKS is a real winner!!

  61. Phyl Y. Says:

I’ve known about purse hangers for a while but never seen one I thought was that attractive. These are just delightful. I like the double duty it can serve as a purse charm. The purse I would like this for is my favorite hand-screened purse designed by my friend, Carolyn. I couldn’t imagine putting it on the floor. It has a design of mynah birds, is made of a beautiful retro linen, and has bamboo handles. I would love to take the purse and a Luxe Link to dinner at one of our nicer dining establishments. I hope to see these marketed around town. I particularly liked the way Kalika picked her life up by the bootstraps. What an inspiration to all women to choose to succeed!

  62. Cyn Says:

It sucks working till 6 pm, come home, cook dinner, feed the dogs, clean the kitchen and then be able to read the newspaper to find out it’s too late to win the Luxe Links.

Just a note from experience…some table tops are very thick and some hooks are too short to hold the bags. So if your Luxe Links are long enough…you got a winner!

Good luck and thank you for being so generous with your free offer.

  63. Donna Says:

What a very neat idea!!! I have been waiting for something like this… I am very particular and very conscientious when it comes to my many purses. A very good friend once told me that placing your purse on the ground brings bad luck. So, as a result, my purse usually occupies its own chair wherever I go. And the design on your products are amazing!!! I can’t wait to try one out!!! Thank you for this invention and good luck with your product.

  64. blanch F Says:

Awesome idea! I heard somewhere that your purse carries so much bacteria because of where we set it down at. Yikes! Having a Luxe Links will not only make a fashion statement, conversation piece or a unique way to keep your purse close and safe, but this will also help eliminate picking up all the “who knows what lurks beneath the table” crap! I live in Washington state. Send one my way and all the Seattlites will be begging for one for themselves!

  65. Patti L Says:

Wearable art is my favorite accessory and gift to myself and others. Your LUxe Link is fabulous. I would be thrilled to have or give any size and any design.

  66. Tu Says:

Thank you to Kalika Yap for introducing this line to us, and to Nadine Kam for writing about it.

Back in her day, my mother had handbag holders. I was always fascinated with one in particular, a matte black colored one with a poodle sitting up. Eventually, Mom gave that to me. I understand what you mean about the attention it got, but I think that the attention to mine was because it was a poodle on top of the functionality.

Mom is now in her late 80s, and she has Alzheimer’s Disease. Her short-term memory is well, short, so she lives in a residential care home because she’s not able to care for herself. Her long-term memory is still intact, though it is from decades ago. When any of us children go to pick her up, she still likes to carry a hand bag, with whatever essentials she feels is necessary, but when we stop someplace, she never knows where to put her bag as we sit at a table.

I think having something like this may make her feel like she has a secure place to put it, somewhere she can see her bag to remember it, and not on her lap to have it fall when she stands up, because she forgot it was there, and then having to nearly tip out of her chair to retrieve it.

With Mom’s straight all white hair, and being Asian with a tan, she likes to wear blues. Her handbag is a fabric bag made out of blue fabric. She may have even made this handbag some time ago, but I’m not sure.

Thank you for making this possible.

  67. sharon Says:

    Hi…
I read the article on the Luxe links and…what a great idea–like the ones my mom used to have a long long long time ago!!
I’m glad they’re making a super stylish comeback with cool and modern designs. I hope I qualify for the give away…but with the response that I’ve seen from above…well, I don’t think so…It is truly an amazing product, and all the best on ssles as this will be flying out the door!!!!

  68. lori Says:

When I picked up the paper this immediately caught my attention. I have a few of those ‘other hooks’ but nothing as fashionable nor as compact as Luxe Links (cool name, too). I need to get one (or more) for myself and for all my girlfriends, and daughters.

  69. Sylvia Says:

I love the purse hooks and have been using one for couple of years already. It is truly a fabulous accessory and it actually comes in handy more often than one imagines! The concept of this one is clever but I would hesitate to use it because the chain link may damage the handles…. I got mine from PurseSitter and they are great! They have a beautiful range of patterns and their price point is more attractive too. Just my honest opinion!

  70. Karen Says:

Thanks for recommending the Purse Sitter, Sylvia! They really have some very cute patterns and the price is fabulous! After much debating between the two, I just can’t resist the super cute dress and cat patterns, LOL! I can’t wait to receive my order and thanks again for offering another choice for such a great accessory!!

  71. Ernie H. Says:

Great site! I am loving it!! Will come back again - taking your feeds also, Thanks.
