Wedding to celebrate a love forever green

The happy couple, Yu Shing Ting and Travin Makinano.
After quietly marrying last August, Travin Makinano and my Midweek compadre Yu Shing Ting finally had their dream reception and renewal of vows on the lawn of Waikiki Aquarium the evening of July 12.
As the invitation read, the ceremony was one with “no gown, no bouquet, not even a cake,”and I suppose, for a style editor, that just wouldn’t do.The bride wanted a green wedding so ono Hawaiian food was served on recycle-able paper plates and had small bouquets made of a mix of real and keepsake plastic flowers. Guests also received small paper hearts studded with wildflower seeds to sprout at home or wherever a touch of color or greenery is needed.
The bridesmaids — all 10 of them — plus maid of honor were dressed in green ruffled strapless dresses by Fighting Eel, while the ushers and best man wore aloha shirts from Hawaiian Moon. The bride looked beautiful in a simple, strapless white gown with a shirred bodice and small train that Travin dutifully lifted off the ground as she walked.
Congratulations Yu Shing and Travin!

Photographers had to stand back to get the entire wedding party in the picture!
A few more photos follow.

Among the guests were Yu Shing’s Midweek boss, editor Don Chapman, with Cecilia Villafuerte.
Fighting Eel’s Lan Chung and Linh Owen were among the guests, showing the mix of short and long lengths of summer 2008. Fighting Eel created the bridesmaids’ dresses. Come to think of it, I also wore Fighting Eel. It was their debut collection black tank top paired with a Club Monaco summer skirt the color of orange/watermelon sherbet.
Designers Takeo and Eric Kamakahia’ai Chandler helped the bride with her plans. He’s very good at applying the pressure, asking what kind of wedding I would want. I plan to one day elope and tell no one. I just couldn’t stand being the center of attention.
A Cinderella-style horsedrawn carriage awaited guests who wanted a ride around the area, courtesy of the bride and groom.

how beautiful!
where can i get the cinderella carriage, was this made for her or a rental. love the carriage. did they ride off in it!
Hi Nikolai,
Yu Shing reports, “We were the first wedding in Hawaii to have it. The company, Honolulu Horse & Carriage, just got it in. … They were really easy and nice to work with too.
“We rented the Cinderella horse carriage for a total of 3 hours. The horse carriage greeted guests in the front for the first hour, and then we took the first ride and then it was open for guests to ride for the next two hours.”
For future events, the company can be reached via email at hnlhorse@aol.com or call 924-7895. The Web site is www.honolulucarriage.com
