Winning small in Vegas
By Nadine Kam
The payoff: Two hours of work at the craps table paid for this Hugo Boss snake evening purse at the Primm Outlets.
Hey Kelliiii, sorry to be such a wussy gambler but I’m so conservative I only only won $178 the hard way at Vegas, 7 buckaroonies at a time, while others at the table were winning into the thousands on one guy’s good roll.
Tried to do your hard 6 and 8s but as it turns out, putting money on all the hard ways for me was the sure sign that the shooter’s next roll would be a 7!
Oh well, better than being down $178! Makes me wish we had casino here. It’s different when you’re pressured out to make enough to pay for your Vegas trip in 3 or 4 days, but if you’re willing to settle for steadily making $100 a day at the craps table, well, that’s one way to supplement our meager Hawaii incomes.
Of course the problem is cool heads do not generally prevail, and there are a lot of people who will probably become addicted to gambling, lose everything they own, etc. Yeah, yeah, I know all the arguments against bringing gambling to Hawaii.
I did see so many stupid, low-percentage bets, like people just walking up to the roulette table and placing $25 on black or red and losing $100 in a minute. Or one guy putting $50 on the craps 12 on the field, losing, then making the same bet again, losing and walking away swearing. I mean, what were the odds of a win!
Gaultier sundress from the Neiman Marcus Last Call at the Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas in Primm.
Hey Cheryl, I did make it to Primm, home of Buffalo Bill’s and Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas. Shuttle bus ride from Fashion Show was $15, and my little win ended up paying for half my little shopping spree, so either my Jean-Paul Gaultier Soleil dress, from the NM outlet, or Hugo Boss snake evening purse might be considered free!
Before heading out there, friends wondered why. They said the outlet right in town was better. But I do like to see everything, reporter’s instinct. I was concerned when the shuttle allowed only 3 hours to shop. Given the size of most outlets, that seemed too little time. The Primm outlets is pretty small, so it turned out to be just enough time. The major outlets for me were NM Last Call, Hugo Boss, Miss Sixty, Tahari, Tod’s and Bally. Also there were Coach, Versace, Burberry, Polo Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, Guess, Kenneth Cole, Ann Taylor, Williams-Sonoma Marketplace, Bath & Body Works, and more. aww sorry to hear that the hards weren’t as good to you as they shouldve been. but true, at least you weren’t down 178! and hopefully there was fun players at the crap table! i like your purchases… i’m actually headed to vegas in dec and i’m super excited. i heard there was a h&m, is it true?
Didn’t find my way to H&M, only Zara at Fashion Show, but looks like your wish has come true. H&M is part of Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. You can read about it in the Las Vegas Review Journal:

I went to H&M at Miracle Mile and was disappointed. It’s the size of an average mall store (Gap) and split down the middle, male/female wear. Limited selections now w/ fall fashion only. Very predictable. Certainly not like the H&M’s in NYC.
On craps, place the 6 and 8. Play pass and come bets w/ odds. Hardways only if your shooting hot and play the fire bet, too.
The Zara store in Las Vegas is small too. Downstairs women, upstairs men. At least H&M will be coming here soon, tho’ maybe it won’t be as fun when you start seeing everyone wearing the same thing!
Thanks for the craps tips. If I had known then what I know now, I definitely would have bet bigger $$ on the pass and come like all the guys at the table!
If you want to be conservative at craps, bet the don’t. If you don’t want to bet against the shooter, but bet with the house odds only, leave the “don’t pass” alone and bet only “don’t come”.
Protect yourself against a hot shooter by only having three bets maximum on the table , waiting for a seven before getting back on the table if you get shut out with those three bets, and most importantly, ALWAYS back up with the odds. You can have fun, you are going with the odds and it’s ACTION, baby.
BTW, nice purse, the dress is fine, too.
Is that true… are they really coming to Hawaii? I remember seeing a whole bunch of stores that are big name in the mainland like Pottery Barn, Victoria Secret… just stores that I would never think would come to Hawaii.
As far as if H&M does come, I guess it will really test our style if we can all have the same thing but make it not look like we have the same thing!
It’s gonna go into a new development in Kapolei, so it’ll be a while. The date I hear is 2010, same year as Olympics.
You’re right tho’ — the ultimate style test. Can’t wait to see what people come up with!
