While July will be a quiet month for mixed martial arts locally, there are plenty of big shows nationally to get your fill.
The big one for me is the debut of the new Affliction organization. Yes, the UFC is bringing us Forrest Griffin vs. Rampage Jackson this Saturday on PPV and a free fight […]

Big win for Grove; 29-28 Tanner?!?!?
June 24, 2008
Kendall Grove kept his UFC career alive with a split decision victory over Evan Tanner Saturday night on the Ultimate Fighter finale show.
For those that saw the fight, it looked to be an easy win for the Wailuku, Maui native until ring announcer Bruce Buffer read aloud the first score.
29-28….TANNER?!?!
I didn’t DVR the fight so […]

With all the recent talk surrounding BJ Penn’s dominant win over Sean Sherk in May, not much attention has been paid to Hawaii’s other representative in the UFC.

EliteXC recap: title shot for Diaz?
June 17, 2008
The big story coming out of Saturday’s EliteXC event was the post-fight scuffle between the camps of Nick Diaz and lightweight champion KJ Noons. Moments after Noons needed just 48 seconds to earn a TKO win over Yves Edwards, Diaz was brought to the ring to hype a potential rematch for the belt. After […]

EliteXC recap
June 3, 2008
I spent the weekend in Las Vegas, but managed to catch the last three fights of the first EliteXC show on CBS Saturday night. A night of what seemed to be pretty good fights ended in controversy twice as Kimbo Slice earned a third-round TKO victory over James Thompson after the referee made a questionable […]
More UFC in Hawaii talk
May 27, 2008
Prior to BJ Penn’s fight with Joe Stevenson in January, I was able to talk to UFC President Dana White and asked him about the possibility of the UFC holding an event in Hawaii. The story, which can be found here, details how Aloha Stadium is where White wants to do his first outdoor UFC […]
