EliteXC fighters weigh in
June 14, 2008

Yves Edwards (left) vs. KJ Noons (Champion)

Tony Bonello vs. Murilo “Ninja” Rua
All 24 fighters weighed in yesterday for today’s EliteXC event at the Blaisdell Arena. Tickets ranging from $25 in the balcony to $400 ringside are still available.
Interesting to point out that there was some sort of mix-up regarding weights for the fight between Nick Diaz and Muhsin Corbbrey. Initially scheduled as a lightweight fight at 160 pounds, Corbbrey weighed in at 158 pounds before told the fight was at a catch weight of 168 pounds. Diaz tipped the scales at 169.5 and after drinking water and putting on some clothes, Corbbrey’s official weight was 163.5.
For a fighter to come in expecting to compete at 160 pounds and then be told the limit is eight pounds heavier is quite odd. Especially considering talk that the winner of this fight would be in line to fight the Noons/Edwards winner for the title, I have a hard time believing the Diaz camp wouldn’t know the weight limit was 160 pounds. At least one EiteXC official had no idea the fight was being contested at a catch weight until after the fighters initially weighed in.
Here’s the final card w/ weights:
Kapa Medeiros (171.5) vs. Carl Barton (183)
Rafael Feijao (205) vs. Wayne Cole (204)
