Lesnar rolls, UFC in Hawaii

Date November 19, 2008

So much for Couture/Fedor being the biggest fight out there. Brock Lesnar showed just how bad Couture may have looked against Emelianenko, stopping the 45-year-old in the second round by TKO to become the new UFC heavyweight champion. Lesnar will unify the title in his next fight against the winner of the December bout between Ultimate Fighter coaches Frank Mir and interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Quick notes on the DESTINY event. I was not sent any official results, but from what I heard the setup was nice. Chris Cisneros wound up taking on Kalib Starnes, with Starnes winning in the second round. The big upset of the night was Yancy Medeiros getting a third-round TKO of Poai Suganuma. Also, Kaleo Kwan defeated Zack Rapal by first-round submission.

And finally, don’t forget, the UFC will be in Hawaii for a pep rally Friday at the Waikiki Shell featuring BJ Penn and Georges St.-Pierre, as they hype the big fight JAN. 31 in Las Vegas. We’ll have more in the days ahead.
