Ben vs. the (mono)rail
By B.J. Reyes
Pop culture kudos go to the Ben Cayetano campaign for resurrecting this gem from 1993, when the good citizens of Springfield, Ore., saw the maiden voyage of their light rail system end with the train tethered to a Lard Lad Donut. (Mmmm, donut.)
The campaign Twitter feed today tweeted out a link to this video clip from The Simpsons episode, “Marge vs. the Monorail” with the message:
In case you missed it, check this out … do the lyrics remind you of anything? -st
The video:
The quick synopsis: In an homage to the classic musical “The Music Man,” the citizens of Springfield are duped into believing that a monorail is the economic accelerator the town needs. The con man who has sold the town on the idea makes off with most of the money, dooming the monorail to malfunction on its maiden voyage.

So funny and so true. Kudos for this lighthearted gem. Some aim to put Honolulu on the map with Brockway, Ogdenville, and North Haverbrook!

Just extend track from Pearlridge Skycab “Uptown to Downtown Aiea” to where ever you want “rail”.
Someone like “Tatoo” will be saying, Hey Boss, De-rail, De-rail. Oahu’s Fantasy Island with Mayor “Roarke”.

well, if Ben gets elected the con man won’t be leaving town anytime soon – he’ll be the mayor for the next 4 years.

Heh. Politicians should play the Simpsons card very carefully.
The show has included far too many Mayor Quimby laughs that could hit Cayetano even closer to the bone… his opposition would not have to look very hard to find them.
