In Kawika’s corner

Not to be forgotten in the race for Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District, Republican nominee Kawika Crowley opened Wednesday his campaign headquarters in his hometown of Hilo.

The Hawaii Republican Party posted on Facebook this photo of Crowley joined by mixed martial arts fighter B.J. Penn with the caption:

MMA legend BJ Penn showed up to support 2nd Congressional House District Candidate, Kawika Crowley, as he kicked off his campaign at a press conference in their hometown of Hilo!

Crowley is running against Democrat Tulsi Gabbard to represent rural Oahu and the neighbor islands in Congress. He defeated small business consultant and former Navy submariner Matthew DiGeronimo in the GOP primary.

Mein gosh. Now this is a development.

Either Penn’s a real close pal of Crowley’s (in which case, you simply must needs wonder why such a — well, let’s just say it — quite rich close pal would let a Crowley continue to live a van, that is, if that’s currently the case [I mean, you can't (as a friend) quite show more support for a "living-out-of-his-van candidate of your choice than to provide him with a dwelling, rented or otherwise, no?]), of Republican persuasion (though, think most Republicans have relegated a victorious win to Tulsi at this point), or simply doesn’t realize Tulsi’s fortune.

I mean, what voting block would a Penn command? Demographic: 1) adolescent to high schoolers who are unable to vote; 2) pit bull owning-maybe/big pickup truck driving-maybe/watchers of MMA, read: the type, if any, in our society who might neglect to know or might not realize that important date in November (how’s that for a Grease profiling?).

It is still via miracle that a Penn could get enough votes for Crowley to get half of what Tulsi’s gonna get in November.

Kinda’ endorsement is this? Odd. Get Crowley an apt. or house, Penn, if you haven’t already. That’s how MMAman can help the canidate at this point.

  2. doug:

isn’t Crowley the BB to stardom guy from the seventies?

  3. Goober:

Brings a new meaning to “athletic supporter”.

Matthew DiGeronimo made a mistake by sign waving by Burger King.
Burger King’s motto is “Have it your Way. In politics we the voters do not.
Once a candidate is voted in, those who pull strings get “it their way”.

  4. Recce:

Gotta give credit where credit is due: You hit this one out of the ballpark, Goober!

    I couldn’t careless.
