The University of Hawaii Professional Assembly has dropped $20,000 on a direct mail piece critical of former Gov. Linda Lingle in the U.S. Senate race.
The mailer, on behalf of former congressman Ed Case, one of the Democratic contenders, shows the Republican Lingle with a mask superimposed over her face and the words “We know what she’s hiding …,” a reference to the faculty union’s claim that Lingle would vote with conservatives in the Senate.
UHPA has now spent more than $257,450 on behalf of Case leading up to the primary.
The Sierra Club, meanwhile, has spent more than $50,950 on a new radio ad on behalf of Honolulu City Councilwoman Tulsi Gabbard in the Democratic primary for the 2nd Congressional District. The group reports spending more than $138,250 on Gabbard’s behalf so far.

Puzzling, UHPA’s actions during political season. Is it just a Grease or does UHPA consistently support candidates that don’t end up getting elected. “Will vote with Conservatives.” Uh-huh, good move not, UHPA. Just confuses the voting public, ’specially retiree types. Why doesn’t UHPA just say double ” will “vote with Republicans” in a state where one of the guarans ball-bearins legacy handed down from generation to generation is “no fohget, vote all Democrat, no vote Republican.”
Gabbard ain’t going win. ‘Specially not after she pulled that financial infraction accusation ‘gainst Mufi a few weeks back. I don’t like her TV ads (which are more ad nauseum than Olympic coverage right now, methinks); like she’s selling cars or frozen vegetables instead of running for office.
Think it is Hanneman’s time, indeed.

The Sierra Club is doing a great job of letting the public know about Mufi’s devastating environmental record – without protecting our environment in Hawaii, what do we have? Tulsi has a proven track record of fighting for the environment and at the same time she’s pushing for renewable energy, which will benefit all of us, especially in Hawaii.

I can’t believe Mufi has tried to paint himself as an environmentalist in this election – he even fought the federal EPA and lost a $1.2 billion dollar lawsuit because he was so determined not to follow even BASIC environmental standards. Mufi’s duplicity and dishonestly on environmental issues is sad indeed. We cannot afford to have another politician like him in Congress.

Gabbard is ahead in one poll and tied with Hannemann in the other.
You may be right that Mufi will win because the anti-Mufi vote is being split between three candidates: Tulsi Gabbard, Esther Kia’aina and Bob Marx
Although Tulsi and Mufi are polling in the 30% both Esther and Bob are way back at 7%
Supporters in the Kia’aina campaign have said they want Mufi to win because they feel he will be easier to beat than Gabbard (they know they haven’t got a chance of winning) so they are nonstop negative campaigning against Gabbard. Funny because Kia’aina and Gabbard’s positions are almost identical.
Gabbard says she’ll repeal DOMA, guard the right to choose and protect the environment
Hannemann says he’ll vote to uphold the ban on gay marriage, has said he thinks abortion can be banned at the state level and has a reputation on the environment that is so awful the Sierra Club (largest and oldest environmental organization) has actually created a website listing all the bad things Mufi did.
So if you hate gays, want to regulate a woman’s right to choose and think $s are more important than protecting our ‘aina – by all means vote for Mufi.
If not, the only viable choice is Tulsi Gabbard. A vote for any other candidate is throwing your vote away and giving the election to Mufi.

The fact the Sierra Club is willing to spend so much $$ on Tulsi shows just how enthusiastic they are about her candidacy and how CONCERNED they are about what will happen to Hawaii if Mufi is elected. He will be comfortably in the pocket of huge biotech companies like Monsanto (which is supporting his campaign.) The revolving door between federal employees and biotech is the whole reason we STILL don’t have common sense measures like labeling of GMOS, which the public has supported for over a decade! Tulsi strongly supports the labeling of GMOs and I will be voting her her.

I am so proud of Tulsi for this amazing campaign – she’s really got the momentum here. The Sierra Club is doing a great job. We need all the help we can get to overcome the legacy of corruption that Mufi has left Hawaii!

This is strange – Ed Case has to beat Hirono before he can face off against Lingle. Why is the University of Hawaii Professional Assembly sending a mailer criticizing Lingle now?
Sierra Club really has a thing against Mufi after he opposed pretty much everything they wanted done to improve the environment. No wonder they really really want to defeat him & Tulsi’s got a real good chance based on the latest polls. I wonder if their ad said – Dump Mufi in the sewers. Surf along with Tulsi. hehe

I guess that Gabbard will be beholding to only the Sierra Club and push only their agenda in Congress, rather than what is best for her constituents. All Hail the mighty Chris Butler and his minions!
