Recognizing Whitney

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie had the state’s flags lowered to half staff to honor legendary pop singer Whitney Houston, who was found dead over the weekend in her Beverly Hills hotel room.

The Hawaii House of Representatives would go a step further with a resolution introduced this week that seeks to formally recognize Houston as “one of the greatest recording artists ever.”

House Resolution 28 was introduced by Reps. John Mizuno, Tom Brower and Faye Hanohano.

In addition to recognizing her talent and accomplishments in the music industry and as a humanitarian, the resolution also calls attention to her personal battle with substance addiction:

WHEREAS, Whitney Houston did struggle with substance addiction, however, this resolution seeks to allow her fight with addiction to be a strong message to encourage others to obtain the necessary treatment to address their personal struggle with addiction. …

The resolution (below) was introduced Tuesday, and has not yet been scheduled for a hearing.

To doooooooooo hoooooooooo hoooooooooooooo hooooooooooooooooooo hooooooooooooo

Don’t mistake this as a knock on Whitney; she is simply the greatest voice wew ever heard. Heck, even on that most recent album (I Look To You, was it? A friend bought the disc — yes, bought the actual CD in this day and age — first day it came on our way to meet others for dinner. Showed up late ’cause we loved the song on it. Even her raspy voice at times on that record was golden! Her in concert is another thing, but, . . . oh, whoops. Don’t wanna sound too much like a certain Bret Easton Ellis book, here) she still had it . . . not all of it, but, she had it, still.

House really wanted to do something, how ’bout revisiting some o’these old drug laws, prune, craft ‘em a little better. In honor of Whitney. That’d really be honoring her. How ’bout introducing something a la Stacy Keach in ye ol’ Engolond dug situation, when he had to do time over ther! Yeah! Mandatory time for any celebrity caught w/drugs in the islands! Heh! Might’ve applied to Whitney for that li’l Kona incident.

And see if Hollywood calls Jacko’s, Whitney’s, etc., incidents (all HUGE celebrities) who’ve recently passed on and had struggles w/drugs, where’s their efforts on “no drugs, say no to it” whatever? Where’s their “that was the last straw. ‘Course not. Out of the question with them; I mean, you hear anything from them now?

Boy the legislature must have nothing to do this year…..again. Maybe it’s time for them to get off their perches and start cleaning the highways and streets! Let’s see a resolution for that!
