Kennedy, Dick Cheney, Kurt Warner, Gale Sayers, Elvis Presley and Michele Tafoya.

Previous Hawaii recipients include U.S. Sen. Dan Inouye and Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino.

Gabbard, in her first term on the Council, is running in the Democratic primary for Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District. Other Democrats include former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann, former Office of Hawaiian Affairs Chief Advocate Esther Kia’aina, Hilo attorney Bob Marx, Honolulu attorney Rafael Del Castillo and Miles Shiratori of Kaneohe. Republicans in the race include retired Navy submariner Matt DiGeronimo and Hilo activist Kawika Crowley.

Go Tulsi! We need Tulsi Gabbard’s energy, experience and dedication in Congress! Let’s get out the vote and send this wahine veteran to Washington

  2. Lani:

Tulsi Gabbard is making history one step at a time – this is an amazing award to join the ranks of leaders like JFK. We need someone in Congress who will fight for equal rights and the environment and take a stand against corporate corruption – that someone is Tulsi Gabbard!

  3. Rebecca Withers:

Mufi Hannemann has pushed around far too many people. I agree with Ed Case that Mufi Hannemann is a dangerous politician who will pull Hawaii back to the dark ages of corruption and crony politics if elected. We need to rally around Tulsi Gabbard to make sure that doesn’t happen. She’s already shown she has what it takes to be a real leader – now it’s up to us as voters to make it happen.

  4. Hmmm:

Insane. Though she has promise, what has this individual accomplished?

  5. GoodOlBoy:

I like Matt DiGeronimo, the recently retired Navy Officer (If I’m not mistaken, he retired a higher rank than Tulsi) and now local entrepreneur.

    All the way from washington
Her bread-winner begs off the bathroom floor
We live for just these twenty years
Do we have to die for the fifty more?

    All night
    Hawaii wants the young American
Young American, young American, he wants the young American
    All right
    Hawaii wants the young American

  7. Michael:

@HMMMMM….she has accomplished much more than most thirty year olds or even 60 year olds. Tulsi has served two tours with the Hawaii National Guard in Iraq and Kuwait. She has served in Hawaii state legislature, she current serves on the Honolulu city council and she has founded an environmental group. She also worked under Senator Akaka and she’s supported by National Organizations including the Sierra Club, Votevets, and Emily’s List to name a few. She’s been heralded by peers and superiors alike as being an effective politician who listens and gets things done. Basically she walks the talk. You can research her achievements if you really want to, and should do so before you make general statements like that. What has Mufi achieved? Nothing but a mess wherever he goes. He runs for congress not for the benefit of Hawai’i,but for the security of his political career, why else would he have said being in congress is useless. Just “yea” “Nay” “yea” “Nay”, as he has said in the past. You can research his record too. There is no comparison…Tulsi is what Hawai’i and our country really needs to move forward.

  8. maggie:

We vote Tulsi! We know her as a person of integrity.

  9. Katey:

From a young age Tulsi has shown a passion for public service. Her dedication to serving the community and making a positive impact, has influenced every major decision in her life. You can read more about Tulsi’s accomplishments on her website http://www.votetulsi.com

This young woman never ceases to amaze me, with her accolades, her accomplishments, and a commitment to community, country and her ideals.

Someone once said, “Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality, the stuff character is made of; the power to change the face of things. It is the word that most speaks boldly of your intentions.” That is a worthy description of Tulsi, a person with integrity, who is focused and committed.

Hawaii needs Tulsi Gabbard in the U.S. Congress.

  11. Sonofhawaii:

    Congratulations to Tulsi.
Wow, one of 10 in the United States of America to be honored. I don’t care who you are, that is impressive. If I were her parent, I would be sooo proud….She has and is serving us in the military and in government. Yes, she is serving on behalf of “we the people”. Thanks Tulsi, I know you will continue your selfless work in the years to come.

  12. Me too!:

Wow, Tulsi has a bunch of robotic shills write comments to extoll her presumed virtues!
    I’m, like, totally impressed!
    What’s she running for again?

  13. Starry Eyes:

    Tulsi’s minions seem to have a certain cult-like quality….

  14. Goober:

If you have to ask the question you should already know the answer.

It seems there are those who think their comments are worth more than a shill. Still two cents.
Manson was in a cult. Like for sure!
