Nice get well game for Hawaii, except for the turnovers.
Quirky thing, taking a knee with 5 minutes and change left. Good sportsmanship or patronizing to the opponents? Smart game management or frittering away of opportunity for live reps?

Definitely frittering.
Practicing running plays would not be construed as running up the score.
This staff is still learning on the job and getting paid well.

I think Coach McMackin was sincere about his reasons for taking a knee with 5 minutes left in the game. And I think the CSU coach knows that Coach McMackin is not the kind of guy (like Lane Kiffen) that would patronize by such a gesture. I personally would have liked to see Enos kick the field goal and see Moniz break the halftime and the overall game touchdown pass record.

Taking a knee was the right thing to do. Attempting a field goal when you’re leading 66-7 would have been classless.

Believe it was patronizing and an insult to the opponent. When you agree to play a game, you want to play at your hardest and best and not have the opponent mock your team by taking a knee with 5 minutes left in the game. It is like telling charleston that they are so bad that hawaii is giving mercy to them. Really charleston was not asking for any favor, they came to play and got the hell beat out of them, but they came to play and not to be insulted.

Anyone can put up 66 pts on a Division II team. If it had been a quality opponent the score would have been different. No need to get all big headed. They should have put in the third stringers in the 3rd quarter.. Not impressed. If they beat La Tech the same way then I will be..

C’mon John …Charleston Southern was a game the Warriors needed . UH played well and was able to get players on the field who will not play much this year. It was a feel good game for the fans also but most of us realize the remaiing games will be more challenging. You probally don’t go to the games anyway . BTW..taking a knee showed class versus trying to score more points. What would Boise have done ? I’d bet they would have run a pass play

First, CSU is not a DII team…get it right.
Second, other “more visible” DI teams have either lost or almost lost to teams like CSU.
And third, you don’t know anything about football (at least college football)! Maybe you never played on a REAL organized sport or just never won.

No sense slapping down the haters here. Wasted energy. No matter what the Warriors do positive they gonna still be hatin’.
BTW: I was looking for foward to a 70+ score so I was disappointed with the kneel down at 5 minutes. It would have been nice for the kids on the bench to get on the stat sheet this season.

All I`m saying is that playing a team like CSU is not much of a challenge and the fact that they put up such big numbers didn`t really make an impression on anyone. I`m not hating but more humilty would be better than trying to jack the score up. Taking a knee did show class. It`s not the Warriors were so good, it`s just that CSU played so horribly. Why couldn`t the Warriors have done the same thing with Army and Colorado when they were up by a bunch? That`s because they got complacent in the second half and quit playing. If a team comes to our house and is down by 49 -7 at the half I`d give up too…
We`ll see when they play Fresno, Boise, and Nevada.
BTW, here`s my prediction not that it matters.
Hawaii vs Fresno = Loss
Hawaii vs Boise State = Loss
Hawaii vs Nevada = Loss
If they win these games I`ll be the first one to come back here and eat crow.

If I were the opposing coach I would have told Coach Mack after the game there was no need for you to play us for a cow. There’s no need for you to milk us. Letting our team preserve our fighting spirit until the end would have been the honorable gesture. Stripping us of our masculinity makes me sick . There was no welcoming gesture received on our team’s part by you instructing your team to take a knee with over 5 minutes left in the game as far as I am concerned. I would be emphatic about this. And then I would walk away and tell my players what I told Coach Mack.

Nah . . . I didn’t like the knee either. Just run the ball, and if you score, so what.

Letting some of the third or fourth string players get some “PT” in Aloha Stadium is a huge moral booster for the whole team. Remember the movie, “Rudy”. A lot of these kids sacrifice playing on the scout team, two a day practices and standing on the sidelines for years without having the chance to get “live reps” in front of the fans. And… If they put these kids in, the coaches should let them run plays and score if they can.
I think Coach Mac should rethink this decision in the future…
