Chickenskin

I had a must-attend family gathering last night … and as feared, I missed something tremendous at the UH basketball game.

Even though I wasn’t there, I got that special feeling you only get once in a while from a very special sports events. Off the top of my head, the one other local sports story I can equate to Miah Ostrowski’s performance on the emotional Richter scale is the Radford football team’s state championship after the death of its coach, John Velasco, back in the early 1980s.

You know what Dave, it was definitely a chicken skin moment. And for me, with my lazy butt on the couch watching it on TV, I couldn’t help tearing up at what I was seeing, especially in OT. That kid is a special athlete, and my props for him showing up to play with a heavy heart considering what just happened to his family.

Miah Ostrowski, I am now a fan of yours for as long as you are around.

What wasn’t shown on television was not only the UH players walking over to the student section and shaking hands with the fans there but Miah being the last player, walking up into the stands and sharing a moment with his family and friends. After that before he walks off into the tunnel he acknowledges the fans and signs autographs for two young fans.

Gosh, wouldn’t it have been perfect if that three he took i believe in the first overtime went in. I swear it was half way down.

In 1992, UH outfielder Harold Cabbab hit a home run in a game against Fresno State at Murakami Stadium, and pointed to the sky. His father had died a few days before.

Kui was a good player, Miki Ostrowski was better and Miah is better than both of them!
Miah brings the dribble penetration to UH’s game, something this team has been missing for the last few years. And like Derrick Lowe, Jarin Akana, David Hallums, Kalia McGee and Alika Smith, Miah proves that there are local boys who can play DI hoops – they just need the experience of playing guys at that level.

I remember being at that game. That was an awesome moment as well. Thanks for the reminder, Dave.

Awesome perfomance by Miah! Kui was definitely in “da house” watching his boy do him proud!!

I think if Kui had been on a high school team that wasn’t as loaded, he would’ve scored a lot more. He was perhaps the best all-around athlete on a great Maryknoll team that included Garrett Gabriel, David Horner, Pio Sagapolutele, David Mills and Kui’s brother Dominic.
He was tough, quick and strong. Always seemed to be smiling while he was playing, too.

Thanks a bunch! My customers were wondering how to get IE to behave this way.
