Rob DeMello, the “Rob” in the “Rob and Russ” sports radio show on AM-1500, will no longer be with the show after July 16. DeMello, who is also a reporter and weekend anchor at KITV, is stepping back from the three-hour, twice weekly show, citing professional and personal demands on his time. Rob and his wife Christie have a baby daughter, Naomi.
Rob will still do some producing work at 1500 and “I’m not ruling out coming back in some capacity,” he said.
His last show is July 16. Russell Yamanoha is expected to remain as a host, but no successor to DeMello has been named.
Rob’s smart not to overextend himself and priorities change with a growing family. But the sooner he’s back on the radio, the better for Hawaii sports fans.

Rob will be missed. He is one of the best young men in the business. He has a reasonable approach to sports that is lacking in many sportscasters. Enjoy your baby, they grow up fast! Mahalo for your contributions.

I feel that Rob “is the show” on 1500. With his absence, 1500 will take a huge hit in the Tues/Thurs ratings. Russ will have to find a good radio partner like Kekaula or Reardon to keep things afloat.
Family is important so Rob is making a wise decision.
