Two down, three to go

Hawaii now has a two-game winning streak after beating the Aggies of Utah State and New Mexico State, and the Warriors are 4-6. UH must beat San Jose State on the road and then Navy and Wisconsin here to finish the regular season with a winning record and get into the Hawaii Bowl.
I think they win next week at San Jose State, but lose to the bowl-bound Midshipmen and Badgers. The Warriors played their best game of the season on defense last night, but I don’t see them stopping the running games of Navy or Wisconsin.
Your thoughts please. Also, thoughts on the big plays from last night’s game.

Completely agree. It would be an awesome story book ending, but I just don’e see it happening.
Question for you Dave . . . I know someNFL scouts have been looking at John Estes, Blaze, and a couple others, but have you heard anyone taking notice of Salas? I know he’s not a senior, but the guy is leading the nation in recieving. Or is he just another product of the run and shoot in their opinion?

Feel that Hawaii matches up very well with Navy….Hawaii has good speed…size is not a factor when you play Navy……Wisconsin is another story…..They can pound you….that is
Hawaii’s weakness…..
But a few years ago when Hawaii had to beat Northwestern and Michigan State the experts said the same thing…..Warriors proved them wrong…..could happen again….that why you play the games…..

I’m an optimists despite odds. Classic David and Goliath episode. “it how bad do you want it, and how far you’re willing to go for it” Warriors and injuries would need a miracle from a Divine intervention source that ruffles a pathway leading towards a victorious to the end. I’m a true warrior fan so my money is on our team….

I agree with Reardon. No way in hell are the Warriors gonna beat both Navy and Wisconsin. Actually, they aren’t good enough to overlook San Jose State, so let’s worry about that first. Regardless of what happens with San Jose State, the Warriors will face a HUGE dose of reality when they face Navy and Wisconsin.
No bowl this year guys, so go make other plans.

UH should beat SJSU, but Coach Tomey is the ultimate motivator and they’ll be playing on their turf, so I wouldn’t guarantee a victory for the Warriors. Navy and Wisconsin will present huge challenges, but I’ll continue to support UH regardless of their won/loss record.
Tomey has said in the past that he would like to retire in Hawaii. Dave, now that Coach Tomey has announced his retirement from SJSU, can you foresee a role for him in the UH program as a fund raiser, a recruiter or possibly as an assistant on Coach Mack’s staff? I’ve always had the impression that Tomey coaches for the love of the game and I just can’t see him not involved in football in some fashion.
I was a student at UH when Coach Tomey arrived in 1977. I have nothing but the greatest respect for him because he steered the UH football program in the right direction. I don’t know much about the University of Arizona football team, but I do know that Coach Tomey left the UH and SJSU programs in much better shape than when he first arrived at the two schools.

Not a question of stopping Navy or Wisc.. It’s a matter of keeping up with them, TD for TD. Also, the offense is going to have to find a way to get in the endzone more often rather than just put up monster yardage numbers.
They absolutely have to win the turnover battle, which this team has lost in almost every game. If they can accomplish these things in the next 3 games , a showdown in the Hawaii Bowl with June Jones is very possible

I’ve given up making predictions for the year. First things first- – San Jose State. After that?
Who knows? They’ll have to make tremendous improvements in terms of assignment football (in defensing Navy’s version of the triple option) and they haven’t really proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they can stop the fullback dive or the QB keeper. I like that both Navy & Wisconsin are playing well. Although that could be problematic for Hawaii, it also means that a respectable showing will cause some begrudging nods.
