How will Moniz fit in? … Arceneaux offered Saint Louis job

As Jason Kaneshiro reported Monday, Bryant Moniz will be back soon to compete for the Hawaii starting quarterback job that was his at the end of last season. Coach Greg McMackin narrowed the timeline down further today, saying Moniz will return from personal leave in time for “fall practice,” meaning the start of fall camp.

“We’ll have to talk about where we insert him,” offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich said after today’s final practice before Friday’s spring finale. “It gives us a much better problem than not having him would be.”

Shane Austin and David Graves have been taking most of the first-team reps in the spring and have been impressive at times, as have Brent Rausch and Cayman Shutter. But no one has moved clearly to the head of the class, Rolovich said.

Darnell Arceneaux is the latest candidate to surface for the Saint Louis School football head coaching job. The former Crusaders star quarterback is the head coach at Mililani.

What we’d determined yesterday is that an offer was made, but by late afternoon Arceneaux had not accepted it, and had turned off his cell phone last night.

I’m pretty sure Arceneaux wants that job, after all, he did have it before. But, is he too bitter about what happened to him there? I’m guessing probably. Maybe rightfully so. However, it seems like the perfect opportunity for him to make his demands known. He may just get them. If he turns them down, it will be safe to say that Saint Louis will be desperate to find a coach. Who ever thought the head football coaching position at Saint Louis would be a hard sell? Man things have changed.

  2. Its over:

It seems to me that St. Louis is barking up the wrong tree. A couple of times last season I found myself in the St. Louis section at Aloha Stadium. Once I sat in front of a father of a player. The father had very strong, firm opinions, divergent from what the then St. Louis coaches were doing – on just about every down. Another time it was a mother behind me. Both clearly understood how to correct problems on the field with respect to personnel and play calling. Maybe St. Louis should look amongst its pool of parents for a new coach.

this actually would be arceneaux’s second offer by st. louis within the past few weeks.
what irony in that didn’t st. louis once release him because of a lack of college degree?

  4. jabba:

i hear that this time they are tossing in an asst athletic directorship to fatten the offer.

three other former st. louis coaches/alum have already turned down the job.

First the NCAA says 6-6 record gets u into a bowl now 5-7 is now the standard to get u in McMackin should be so lucky As i said before u got 5 QB’s means u have none

    1. Arceneaux just gave birth. His family is deeply rooted in Mililani. St. Louis might really have to step it up for him to leave central Oahu.

    2. Dave, are the rumors true regarding Moniz? If so, how the heck is he going to run the offense, be a leader and get the respect of his teammates?

  7. Dave Reardon:

I don’t know what rumors you have heard, longboarder. But I will say this: I think it would be very difficult for Bryant Moniz to lead this team this fall after what has occurred.

    dave,

i agree with you; if the information i rec’d is valid, there is zero chance of him being a leader for this team…and that is the rest of the story. it’s all about choices………
