My wife and I will be leaving for NOLA tonight. I originally planned to take my Canon DSLR with me to capture images from the most important UH football game that I'll probably ever attend. However, then I learned that cameras with detachable lenses are banned at the Superdome. Of course, the ban doesn't apply to professional photographers with press credentials. Apparently point-and-shoot cameras are permissible, so that's what I'll be using during the game.

I've been running into that problem often lately. I've been at events where people are snapping photos with their point-and-shoot cameras, but the minute I take my DSLR out of its bag, I'll be asked by ushers and security people to put it away. When I ask for an explanation, I've been told professional photographers aren't allowed on the premises or it's due to "security reasons." When I explain I'm simply an amateur who likes to take pictures, they'll say it doesn't matter because I have "professional-looking" equipment. Somehow it doesn't seem fair that there's one standard for point-and-shoot cameras and another for DSLRs.

By the way, I've enjoyed this blog. I like the fact that you include exposure details with the captions. It's been a good resource for people like me who aspire to improve their techniques. Keep up the good work!
