Parting notes on Wahine spring

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

By Cindy Luis

sorry this did not get posted earlier this week (Monday)Not really enough for a story in the paper but …Wahine wrap up spring practice Friday.Spring is going well with the Wahine. If you read Shoji’s online chat last week not much has changed.Dani still slightly ahead of Stephanie at setter. He’s happy to have 2 good ones on the roster.Said that Brandt was fully recovered from the ankle sprain in the scrimmage last monthNickie Thomas not yet cleared. Jayne Lee neither. both expected back in summer. He thinks Cat Fowler will add good depth in middle.Shoji can’t comment but it appears the VBT posting on Tuaniga is valid for 09. 6-2 MB. cousin of Jennifer Saleaumua. Think a niece of Carolyn Taetafa.WAC Tourney dates still up in the air. options are move it back a day to finish with final on Friday or have a day (Saturday) in between the semis on Friday and championship on Sunday.Still not happy with the situation.Thnks they’re farther ahead than where they were at this point last season.

Mock game … Navy 2009 date changed

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

By Dave Reardon

The Green team takes a 3-0 lead as Dan Kelly kicks a 45-yard field goal after the Black team opens with a 3-and-out. But there’s some controversy, since Black quarterback Inoke Funaki was the holder for Kelly’s field goal. He was ragged appropriately by teammates.

Kelly kicked a second field goal, again for the Green. It ends 6-0, Green. And then a spirited ha’a.

More later. Got to work on some stuff for tomorrow’s print edition.

By the way, don’t worry about the Navy game in 2009 since Navy announced it will open with Ohio State on the date previously set for Hawaii. Jim Donovan said UH has agreed to host Navy on Nov. 21 instead of Sept. 5.

Aloha, all
I am heading to California for my son’s graduation from Pepperdine. I’ll have limited access to the Internet soooo …
You folks are welcome to chat while I’m gone.
I’ll try to post updates on the MPSF tournament Thursday and Saturday if possible.
