The Warriors arrived here this afternoon after holding their walkthrough at Trinity High School in Euless, Texas. They’ll make the half-hour drive to Ruston for tomorrow’s game.

>>  News of today’s earthquake and tsunami in American Samoa struck close to home for about a dozen members of the traveling squad who have family members there. They’ve been monitoring the situation through the evening with some trying to get in touch with relatives.

This completes UH’s recruiting class to 2010. Was trying to get a comment from her coach before I posted it. This is all I have at the moment.Apparently she made one last trip to Oregon State over the weekend. Beavers were swept by Washington Sunday 25-21, 25-15, 25-21 as 1100 watched for 80 minutes. Her visit to Hawaii was during the Stanford sweep with over 6,000. wonder if it had any influence on her decision?

Top 5 stays the same. Nebraska drops from 6 to 10. It’s been a while they’ve been that low.

Hawaii’s next two oppponents met today with NMSU pulling out a 19-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-21.Too bad LaTech had to play back to back, winning in 5 Saturday night then coming back for an afternoon match with the Aggies. Fresher legs might have made a difference. Obviously the Lady Techsters are much improved.   They have a number of transfers who are making an impact.

Wahine vs. Idaho rewind

A very efficient night for Hawaii. They looked as good as they have all season in Sets 1 and 2. Thought Mafua kept Idaho off balance with the up-tempo offense. At one point in Set 2, UH hitting .765: 13-0-17 when leading 19-5. When Ferrell was blocked (21-9) UH was 15-1-22. They ended up hitting .640 (17-1-25).Cubi-Otineru didn’t have a hitting error until the middle of Set e (10-1-20) when she was blocked on a pipe set.Forsythe continues to play well when coming in Set 3. She’s 5-0-6 in each of the last 2 matches. She’s 31-3-51 on the season, her only hitting errors came against Cal when she was 4-3-8.We’ll see what happens at LaTech. A bit of a surprise they could knock off Utah State (in 5) tonight. Their first win since Sept. 29, 2007, a stretch of 27 WAC matches. But Hawaii is a pretty mature team and should handle the road OK.

Update on Kuo resigning, Tsuji

By Cindy Luis

a post on another thread asked about Mason Kuo’s replacement. Haven’t heard anything yet. Tony McInerny is listed as a volunteer assistant. Don’t know if it means he’d be first in line. There’s a lot of good people out there. Haven’t spoken with Mason. It sounds like this may be because of family reasons. believe his wife is originally from the Big Island.

Letuli, Brown out for LaTech

Friday, September 25th, 2009

By Jason Kaneshiro

UH offensive tackle Laupepa Letuli and linebacker Aaron Brown will not make the trip for the Warriors’ Western Athletic Conference opener at Louisiana Tech.
Letuli injured his left knee while working out in the weight room during the team’s break from practice this week. Adrian Thomas and Kainoa LaCount have been working at right tackle in his absence.
Brown has been struggling with a hamstring injury since fall camp.
>> Defensive end John Fonoti worked with the first unit in his first day in pads since returning from a knee injury. He ended the morning soaked in water and Gatorade. Rocky Savaiigaea and Tuika Tufaga emptied the jugs on him to celebrate his birthday.
>> Eliott Purcell, coming off a solid game at UNLV, was first in the rotation at the other end.
>> Punt returner Ryan Henry has missed the last two practices with a tight hamstring.
>> Arizona transfer Kaniela Tuipulotu has been cleared to practice with the scout team. The defensive tackle is coming back from a shoulder injury and is sitting out this season due to transfer rules. “I’m just trying to get out there and try to help them get a look,” Tuipulotu said.

She’s back, says she’s feeling much better. Shoji expected to take it easy on her today but also expects that she’ll be able to play against Idaho
