Warrior-Anteater rewind

January 29th, 2010

A really good win for the Warriors tonight. Was impressed by how they hung in there, especially when a couple of calls went against them. sure wish the refs would improve.

Sadly, there is no story in Saturday’s Star-Bulletin. A deadline issue. But it is online.

Umlauft had 37 kills, a rally score record for UH and the most kills since Torry Tukuafu had 39 against Stanford in 2000 (non-rally score era).

Thought the Anteaters played well, didn’t fold after getting rolled on in Set 2.

A bit of a change in the lineup for Hawaii. Hunt starting in place of Tuaniga and Dyer instead of Grgas.

UCI up 15-13 at the TTO. UH has 4 SEs which has been the difference.

UH was down 19-15 but behind Dyer’s serve it’s 19-19. TO UCI

UH up 23-21. TO  UCI.

UH led 27-25, UCI has tied it at 27. TO UH.

It was 28-28 with Rawson and Hunt blocking Clark then Clark hits long. 30-28 UH

UH to close 2012 with WKU

January 29th, 2010

Hawaii will close the 2012 season against Western Kentucky of the Sun Belt Conference, the schools announced today.
The game, the first meeting between the programs, is scheduled for Dec. 1, 2012 at Aloha Stadium. The deal leaves UH with one opening on the 2012 schedule.
“I’m sure their coaches, players and fans are very excited for the opportunity to finish out the regular season in Hawaii,” UH athletic director Jim Donovan said in a release. “Having already completed the 2010 and ’11 schedules and needing one more game for ’12 and ’13, we’re meeting one of our goals to have the football schedule complete several years out.”
With the addition of WKU, this is how the Warriors’ nonconference schedules in shape up over the next few years with one opening left for 2012 and 2013.

Hawaii to host a regional in 2011, Gil, spring & other updates

January 26th, 2010

A few hours late on this. Been away from the computer until now.

Hawaii has been selected as one of the host schools for a 2011 regional. Will be the first time since 2006 UH will host. The final four that year will be in San Antonio. Other regional sites are Florida, Kentucky and Minnesota. Play Dec. 9-10.

The NCAA pretty late in announcing regionals on this one, as well as 2010. The sites for the Dec. also announced today: Washington, Penn State, Dayton and Texas.

Sounds like Amanda Gil not making her trip to UH. don’t know if the info on VolleyTalk is true. And Ladeda hasn’t check in on here in a while. Haven’t seen anything from UW.

No spring match so far. UH was waiting on Arizona but sounds like it’s a financial thing. Shoji was going to ask Banachowski to come out. It really would be a nice way for Hawaii to say goodbye to the UCLA coach.

Aneli Cubi-Otineru has signed with a team in Puerto Rico: Guaynabo.

And Kanani Danielson will be going to next month’s U.S. National Team open tryouts.

Someone asked on another thread about Paige Mitchell, the walkon freshman middle. I wrote a few months ago that she had left the team … that happened before Thanksgiving.

Warriors still at No. 9 in 1-25 poll

January 25th, 2010

Still not a lot of respect for Hawaii. Warriors stayed at No. 9, while leapfrogged by UCLA. The Bruins did beat CSU Northridge last week, but still.

Stanford splits at BYU and moves up to No. 2. USC unanimous No. 1. CSU traded places with Stanford, now No. 3

BYU goes to 4, followed by Penn State, UCLA … from 11th sixth … UCI and Long Beach State.
