Florida makes it official with release on Ferrell signing

Three players have joined the Florida volleyball
roster for the 2010 season, head coach Mary Wise announced Wednesday.

Outside hitter Stephanie Ferrell (Los Angeles, Calif.), a junior
transfer from Hawaii, junior outside hitter Cinthya Roberto (Brasilia,
Brazil), a two-time junior college All-American from Blinn (Texas)
College, and right-side Tangerine Wiggs (Seattle, Wash.), a sophomore
transfer from Washington State, each join the Gators for the 2010
campaign and are eligible to compete this season.
Ferrell, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter, joins the Gators after two seasons
at the University of Hawaii, where she was a second-team All-Western
Athletic Conference selection as a sophomore in 2009 and was part of the
team’s NCAA regional semifinal appearance. She will have two seasons of
eligibility remaining.

Ferrell played in 68 matches in her two seasons with the Wahine, ranking
10th in the WAC in kills per set last season with 2.64. After averaging
29 kills in seven sets of the Stanford Regional last season, she was
named to the NCAA All-Region team. She holds career highs of 19 kills, a
.600 hitting percentage and three service aces.

Croson on FIVB Beach Youth team

It might be old news but just got it from USAV…
The selected girls’ youth beach teams are Summer Ross (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Jane Croson (Lakewood, Calif.) along with partners Lara Dykstra (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and Rebecca Strehlow (Long Beach, Calif.)

They placed fifth at the 2009 FIVB Youth (U-19) Beach World Championships. In 2008, the pair placed seventh at FIVB Junior (U-21) Beach World Championships and made history as the youngest pair to ever compete in the event
Croson is working on her indoor game as she prepares to travel with the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team to Tijuana, Mexico, to contend in the 2010 NORCECA Women’s Junior (U-20) Continental Championships from July 5-10. Dykstra competed in the 2008 FIVB Youth World Championship for beach volleyball and Strehlow was a member of the 2009 U.S. Girls’ Youth Beach Training Team.

Congrats to Kaufman, Joe Kearney Award winner

Kaufman named the Joe Kearney Award winner today, the fourth Rainbow Wahine to be selected for the award given to the top female student-athlete in the WAC. She joins volleyball All-Americans Kanoe Kamana’o and Kim Willoughby, and All-American diver Emma Friesen as honorees from UH.

NCAA men’s volleyball host sites

A bit of a surprise since they normally didn’t do back-to=back west coast. but perhaps the MIVA didn’t put in a bid.

INDIANAPOLIS The NCAA has announced the host sites for the 2012 and 2013 National Collegiate Men’s Volleyball Championship.

The University of Southern California will host the 2012 event, which will be the first NCAA National Collegiate Men’s Volleyball Championship that it has hosted. UCLA has been selected as the site for the 2013 championship. This will be the 14th NCAA men’s volleyball national championship hosted by the Bruins, the most of any school.

As previously announced, the 2011 National Collegiate Men’s Volleyball Championship will be held at Penn State University.
