Discussion started on another thread. Let’s move it over here.

There will be 10 teams. They are announcing one a day. So far: Los Angeles, New York, Washington DC and Chicago. When I spoke with the organizers in ’09 at the final four, they said Hawaii was under consideration. But think the economic climate has changed so probably not viable for the inaugural season.
My guess is they’ll stay close to major airports so this is my list for the remaining 6.
Seattle, somewhere in Nebraska, Texas and Florida, Minneapolis and Denver.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Banachowski gets involved with L.A. Mick Haley and Jerritt Elliott both are involved. or they were 2 years ago.
They’ve pushed back the starting date. no new date given. Original thought is that it was going to be partnered with a TV show similar to Big Brother or Making the Band. …. Making the Team. don’t know if that is still a go.

Appreciate all the posts while I was gone to the mainland.

saw someone mentioned that the 2011 roster was up. here’s the link.

http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/roster.aspx?path=wvball&

20 players listed, no real surprises. Believe I had mentioned Kawamura and Blake earlier as ‘invited’ walkons.

20 is a lot. Shoji usually doesn’t carry more than 18.

And who knows who will show up for 2-a-days? He’s had a number of hopefuls show up in the past, some unannounced. can remember one player not even making it to lunch before she walked out. .

On vacation but please post items

Had a nice chat with Joshua this week after he got back from Anaheim. Wrote a story for the S-A. Not sure when it run. He said he learned a lot in the three weeks, feels he got better and that his serve was very consistent. He’s back in Hawaii for a few weeks then he’ll go back to Anaheim for the World University Games tryouts. He has signed with an agent, has a few offers, the best from a German team.

Hawaii men’s volleyball opposite hitter Jonas Umlauft became just the third player in program history to be named to the CapitalOne CoSIDA Academic All-America team in the Men’s At-Large category. Umlauft was selected to the 15-member second team.

An engineering major who carries a 3.93 cumulative grade point average, Umlauft led the nation in kills for the second consecutive year (5.57 per set) while being named first-team AVCA All-America and first-team all-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. In addition, he was selected to the MPSF all-academic team and CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII first team.

Umlauft is the third player in the program’s history to be named Academic All-America joining Dejan Miladinovic (2002 – first team) and Costas Theocharidis (2002 – second team & 2003 – first team).

The Men’s At-large category includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.

Earlier this year, Kealoha Pilares, a member of the Warrior football team, earned CoSIDA Academic All-America first team honors. In all, UH student-athletes have earned 22 CoSIDA Academic All-America certificates since 1970.
