Men’s volleyball opens practice

Have the day off and have begun vacation. Stephen’s the beat writer for MVB. Here is an item from his blog today.

http://warriorbeat.staradvertiserblogs.com/2011/10/26/wednesday-report-4/

Per the above link: The Warrior volleyball team opens fall camp today with a two-hour practice this afternoon. While the Warriors must replace the big three — Jonas Umlauft, Joshua Walker and Nejc Zemljak — the replacement candidates are skilled six-rotation players. Translation: They are accurate passes and active blockers. There might be fewer spectacular kills, but steadier passing and defense.

In team testing, J.P. Marks, a 6-foot-5 outside hitter from Germany, had a 40-inch vertical jump and touched 11-7.

The men’s volleyball roster is and has been incomplete since been updated.  Click on the following link:  http://hawaiiathletics.com/roster.aspx?path=mvball&
None of the following highly touted recruits are listed:

Jan-Philipp Marks, 6-5, OH, Germany’s Junior National Team (enrolled in 2nd SS)
Taylor Averill, 6-7, S/OH/MB, RsFr from UC Irvine
Brook Sedore, 6-5, OH Grand Prairie Composite HS, Alberta, Canada
J.J. Mosolf, 6-6, Opposite, Hart High School, Valencia, California
Johann Timmer, 6-6, MB/Opposite, New Zealand National Team

Mosolf and Gus Tuaniga are slated to join the team in spring.
