Croson earns sand All-America honors

University of Hawaii  freshman Jane Croson earning a spot on the team inaugural AVCA sand volleyball All-America team . Croson was one of just 10 players and among three freshman selected to inaugural team.

The All-America team was selected by coaches in attendance at the AVCA National Championship and announced following Saturday’s championship of the team competition, won by Pepperdine.  The Waves placed four players on the squad, while Florida State had three players selected. National runner-up Long Beach State placed two players.

Croson has tallied more than 20 wins this season with the majority of her matches at the No. 1 flight with partner Ashley Lee. The pair went 17-5 in the regular-season and earlier this year captured the gold division of the North Florida Tournament, emerging from a total of 35 pairs.

Croson and Lee, along with the duo Emily Hartong and Elizabeth Stoltzman will continue play in the pairs competition of the AVCA National Championship on Sunday. Croson-Lee garnered the  No. 7 seed and will face No. 10 seed Sara Shaw and Geena Urango of USC in the round of 16 of Sunday’s single-elimination tournament. Stotlzman-Hartong earned the No. 8 seed for will take on No. 9 Haleigh Hampton and Chelsea Cabrajac of Long Beach State.

Sunday’s action starts at  3 a.m. HST with quarterfinals scheduled for 4 a.m.  Both semifinals and the championship match will be held on center court, beginning at 5 a.m.

Anteaters win MPSF championship

UCI def. Stanford in 5, 20-25, 25-27, 25-21, 25-21, 15-12.

I’m guessing that USC gets the at-large

Both Lawson and Shoji make the all-MPSF tourney team.

for Stanford, Lawson match high 23 kills 23-6-54, 1 ace, 2 SE, no blocks, 11 digs, 32-0 on serve receive.

Shoji 2 assists, 12 digs, aced once in 21 serve-receive.

Wahine finish 2nd in both of their pools. Not sure how that will translate to their seedings for Sunday’s single elimination. they are both Top 8, somewhere between 5-8.
