UH staying with the same starting lineup: Hewitt, Danielson, Uiato, Satele, Croson, Maeda, Hartong
Hoping that TV works for you folks tonight.
I’m writing a sidebar so I won’t be able to get to all the questions as quickly as the last two nights.

Volleyshots

UH is in-system, Uiato spreading it around nicely. UH up 10-4. TO Arizona. UH hitting 615 8-0-13. UA 3-1-10.
Arizona looking a little flat and Hawaii looking very relaxed. It’s 14-5. TO UA.
Wahine looking good so far.
That was quick!!!
Total spanking first set. Love it! Keep it up girls!
That was painful to watch if you were an Arizona fan.
UH wins 25-12. UH hit. 696. 17-1-12. the one error was Croson hitting the tape/antenna.
Goodman 1-0-1 (serivce overpass), Hewitt 1-0-2, Danielson 4-0-4, Croson 2-1-5, Uiato 1-0-2, Satele 3-0-3, Croson 5-0-6.
UH had more SEs (3) than hitting errors.
McLachlin mentioned, Croson should watch Danielson, how she uses the court and varies speed of her hits. Croson has the shots just needs to learn this things at this level.
Good first game!
Croson will only get better. She`ll feed off Kanani.
UH off to a 4-0 start in Set 2. Don’t think Rubio is happy. Uiato moving the sets around, very little block by the Wildcats. TO UA.
Wonder if this is the match we all get to see Adolpho and Vorster.
we’ll see. Shoji is conservative. and he wants this unit to get used to playing together.
I’m not concerned about Croson. She isn’t overwhelmed. A little cautious when going with the bump set instead of two hands but that’s her beach game kicking in.
CIndy I`m bummed because I can`t watch it online. OCSports has restrictions and says errors all the times I try to order. Due to zip codes, phone #, etc…. Any advice?
Hewitt in on 2 blocks (UH has 3). UH up 22-14.
At 22-14, Goodman and Stauber in.
Hawaii wins 25-16. UH hit .281 for Set 2, UA .000.
Goodman 1-0-2, Hewitt 3-0-6, Danielson 7-2-12, Croson 5-3-11, Satele 7-0-10, Hartong 7-1-10.
WOW, up 2 sets. Excellent job so far. What an improvement in the block.
UH still has more SEs (7) than Hitting errors (6). Uh with 20 digs, 8 by Maeda, 4 by Uiato. UA 16.
Here’s the problem with Oceanic’s coverage. The camera is too tight on the action, such that if the ball is hit and lands deep in the court, we don’t see it. Or if the ball is blocked, the camera has moved to the other side of the court, and is no longer following the action ….
Would it kill them to pull back on the camera angle … just a little?
Just sayin’ …
Uiato-Danielson connections seems to have gotten alot better. Also, Uiato looks to be a little offensive. Usually Wahine setters do not really start doing that until they are Juniors or Seniors. Danielson has been serving with a little more velocity.
Uiato has dumped twice, Mafua was much more offensive. But you may see her do more as she sees the block splitting, not that she needs to with her weapons
Danielson with 3 digs. She is 1 away from 900
Sounds like OCSports needs to know to cover volleyball a little better. K-5 seemed to do a good job.
HI playing solidly … very balanced. Uiato spreading things around.
Hewitt’s serve is back. Dunno if she’s been credited with any aces, but she’s caused a bunch of overpasses.
Satele has been very effective so far as well …
No aces for Hewitt but UH did have about 3 overpasses off her serve. Uiato has an ace and Satele just had one in Set 3.
John, wish I could help you with the TV stuff. perhaps email them since you’re in Japan.
Hawaii up 12-8 after a couple of UA hitting errors. A few points back, Croson showed improvement when listening to her teammates to wait and hit angle instead of line. got her 7th kill.
Adolpho not redshirting came in for Hartong.
never said Adolpho would redshirt.
Cindy, was just a comment, for everyone.
Hawaii wins 25-20. Danielson with the final kill. wasn’t as close as the score. A number of subs in at the end.
Danielson 11-2-18, Satele 10-0-17, Hewitt 6-1-16, Croson 7-5-18, Hartong 7-1-10. UH with 6 blocks. Hewitt and Uiato in on 4 each. Maeda with 10 digs.
Named to the all-tournament team from Hawaii were Hewitt, Hartong and MOP Danielson.
he redshirts are wearing black and not their jerseys. It’s Long, Waber and Kawamura.
Adolpho in for Hartong. UH up 20-13.
Satele awesome job! 10 kills 0 errors hit 0.598 from what the gameslacker said.
I`ll try Cindy. Mahalo!
I can imagine what you are going through by trying all kinds of stuff just so you can watch the matches.I would think with todays technology there should be a way. You don;t want to miss next week Hawaiian Air Classic. Good Luck!
Mahalo Kazu! It`s rough because there are international restrictions and watching the game live is not happening here
Gotta find some way to do it. I`ll be home in early Oct so I`ll definitely see a couple games live.
Chan wants to stay at OPP, sorry for all those who wants Hartong at OPP.
Hartong belongs in the middle, she sold me this weekend, very impressive!
Very happy with the wahine serving today, that’s how you serve if you want to go back to the final four. Tough serving makes your offense easier!!!
Totally agree!
From the stats tonight sounds like Uiato did a nice job of distributing the ball. Seems like her connections got better.
A good win for Hawaii tonight; should be a confidence booster; they’ll be challenged this coming weekend and I can’t wait to see it.
I’ll be able to get away and watch just one match in person: would you recommend the long beach match or the ucla match?
Tough call? If I were in Hawaii I think I`d be more up for the UCLA match. Just because Sealy is their coach and coached for Wahine before. The master against his pupil grasshopper.
hmmm. that’s a good reason but which team do you think will give UH the biggest challenge? i apologize; i should have phrased the question differently; i’d like to watch the match that will most challenging to UH and of course, i’d like to see UH rise to the occasion!
I will bet UCLA gives the Wahine a bigger test because Sealy probably knows what Dave might do and how he will tweak the line ups. He might be able to anticipate the game more. Brian LBSU coach hasn`t played Hawaii in a while. Plus I think LBSU hasn`t really been very succsessful recently. They`ve been on a slide for a while. I`d rather see the UCLA match. JMHO…
Awesome; thanks for your help! Will buy those tickets asap!
It’s going to be a great tournament this week. And agree that UCLA should be the biggest test of the three.
LBS has been up and down recently. But Gimmillaro still a very good coach.
Agree if you had to pick 1 match, it would be UH-UCLA.
No Problem! Enjoy. I wish I was going with you. It`ll be a great tournament. Go Wahine!
i would add that the Long Beach St match renews such a great rivalry in Wahine vball history. It’ll be a preview of next season, when Hawaii shifts back to the Big West.
Long Beach St looks good this year. They’ve got a big middle (Hampton) who can do some damage. They gave Washington a challenge this past weekend. LBSU look remarkably like Hawaii … with undersized hitters at the pins.
either way … the UCLA or LBSU matches should be good ones.
So glad Shoji is letting both Hewitt and Hartong serve. I love both their serves and their both better servers than Maeda.
Anyone know how I can see the replay footage of the game? Can`t get OCSports here in Japan because of restrictions. Anybody recorded the game and put it on youtube or something? Much Mahalo`s!
what time is rhe replay?
Right now they are showing the Washington St vs Hawaii soccer match again.
Monica Stauber looks like Jenny Wilton.
Robin, agree, a very young Wilton. If you saw Jenny now … well, when I saw her a few weeks ago didn’t recognize her. She is breath-takingly beautiful.
that’s great to hear…
I emailed OC16.TV because they keep replaying the UH soccer game with WSU – which was a week ago! What happened to replaying the current games of the week, i.e. UH volleyball games? Very disappointing and on the verge of tuning out OC16 if this contiues to happen.
I had to come on to the advertiser to get recaps of the matches. Thanks Cindy, I appreciate what you do to keep UH fans in the loop.
I agree why soccer so many times. I would gladly like to see 3 Wahine volleyball games over and over again like soccer. Is OC-sports the soccer rerun station or what. Its the ground hog movie for soccer.
Cindy. A question about redshirting. I seem to remember that the players could play a certain number of games and still redshirt. There was also a drop dead or cutoff date. Or does the rule apply to medical redshirts only.
I think once you play you cant redshirt anymore
Okay I got my answer. It pertains only to medical redshirt.
Cindy,
I thought the plan was to redshirt Waber. Could’ve sworn somebody mentioned Waber played this evening (I wasn’t there). Does it mean there’s a change of plans? Incidentally, I was at the Wichita State game and was really impressed with Hewitt and Hartong’s play. It goes without saying about Kanani, although in all honesty Uiato’s weak and telegraphed setting was responsible for the sporadic offense. I’ll give her a pass because she’s inexperienced and I would think Ah Mow-Santos’ guidance should help her steadily improve. And although she was stuffed a lot, I was really impressed with Croson’s poise, all-around ability and clutch hitting. I see great things in store this season!
Waber wasn’t dressed. Also looked like Long, and another DS.
Mentioned this above. the 3 redshirts were wearing black shirts. Waber, Long, Kawamura. Don’t remember anyone mentioning Waber playing. Adolpho yes, and I think I was the one who said Goodman played and that I thought they might redshirt her as well.
All three of the redshirts participate in warmups.
