Team out on the court peppering. About 20 boosters so far. Interesting partners. Spieler-Olevao, Hartong-Goodman, Longo-Mendoza, Adolpho-Tuaniga, Croson-Long, Lelepali-Uiato, Kam-Maeda, Vorster-Hagins, Kastl Ponce, Stauber-Kawamura.
They don’t have enough jerseys for the 20, only 16. not sure what they’re going to do.
Anyway I’ll check back in when scrimmage starts. Have to write a story for the preview mag.

Volleyshots

forgot they had 30 minutes of warmups. they should be playing around 3:30.
Starting team, with Uiato. Hartong, Goodman, Longo, Hagins-Adolpho. Maeda. They have assistant Baxter playing middle left.
the side has Stauber, Vorster, Croson, Olevao, Kastl. Tuaniga.
Seems Shoji trying to keep the scrimmage fair, splitting up his supposed starters. But why is assistant Baxter playing middle left, do not understand this?
He is trying to even things out and Baxter hitting to replicate some harder hit balls. it helps the defense learn to handle more heat.
Cindy,
If Shoji wants to accomplish that, he should have Wong be the LS hitter.
Wong is not LS, he’s MB.
Uiato’s side wins Set 1 25-14.
Second set will have Uiato’s side with Kastl, Olevao, Maeda, Vorster, Hartong, Tuaniga.
Ah, sucks, Croson is going to be on the losing side again.
her side is winning Steve.
Uiato’s team wins 33-31. some great rallies.
just when we thought it was done … they’d going 3. This looks like the starting lineup i thought. Uiato, Longo, Croson, Vorster, Hartong-Adolpho, Goodman.
Ah, Croson side lost again.
Are there certain players doing well?
Shoji should have his supposed 1st Unit go up against the 2nd unit, with the 2nd unit having the addition of Wong, Baxter, and Robyn.
that’s not what he’s looking for. Plus he wants it to be competitive. It’s been pretty even Although Croson has gone off with a couple of consecutive kills. her side winning 16-12
Uiato, Longo, Croson, Vorster, Hartong-Adolpho, Goodman.
This is going to be the starting line on Friday.
It will be Goodman OR Kastl, nothing is set at this point, hence making this season more exciting.
Vinny,
The Wahine will need Kastl at some point this season. Please cool it a little, ok.
Kastl is a lot like Farrell she not a finesse hitter.
Cindy,
What happened in the 3rd game?
Uiato’s team won 25-20.
Cindy,
We seemed to have lost you, again, what happened in the 3rd game? Your last transmission was at 4:46 PM, nothing after. Did you lose the link up?
Hawai`i took set 3 and swept Hawai`i 3-0 See ya Friday.
Cindy must be enjoying all the good food, and forgot about us.
steve, i’m not at the potluck. i told you that my priority is writing for the daily. i’m back at the office. sorry. i did lose the internet after the end of set 2. Uiato’s side won the last two sets, inclding a shortened set 4 15-10.
Cindy,
I would not have been upset with you, if you did partake in all the good food, cause I would have.
Who do you think made a statement that she wants to be a starter, in the scrimmage?
never saw the food but assuming it would be good. think Adolpho made a statement.
Everyone looked good today except Kastl. This is going to be a good team.
Kastl had her moments.
OUTSIDE HITTER
Depth Chart
1. Emily Hartong
2. Jane Croson
3. Kaela Goodman
4. Tai Manu-Olevao
5. Ashley Kastl
6. Ginger Long
I think Kastl won the spot with all of the heat she brings. Goodman was ok but I would start Kastl, Longo, Hartong, Croson, Adolopho, Vorster, and Mita. Goodman and Emily M. will play important roles and Hagins, Stauber,Long, Mendoza and Oleavo will get playing time. Oleavo is a young Jane. No fear! P.S. The food was good, I brought a fruit plate from Wholefoods. This team is really deep!!!
Ron,
How is Kastl’s blocking tho, Goodman’s strong suit, and what is needed in that position?
Are you saying Olevao is playing like Jane did last year?

Thanks Ron, I was one of the last in line and your fruits were fresh and ono, more than half my plate full. I love fruits!!!
Tai Manu-Olevao is a rising star she blew right past Kastl.
Steve, I don’t think Tai is as good as Jane was last year but I agree we have a star of the future in Tai. Goodman is still the better blocker but Kastl hits the ball so hard from anywhere on the court Dave will be tempted to have her on the court. That way with any rotation you have a back row attacker who can put the ball on the floor. This keeps the middles more honest. I also think that Mita’s progress makes all things possible.
Thanks, Ron. Much appreciate the info.
Just found out Heather Bown and Lauri Hakala are engaged. I didn’t even know they were dating, So happy for both.
After what I saw tonight I think Ashley brings more to complement Jane and Emily on the outside. She brings more heat, has a roll shot and kept the ball in play when the set was not there. Her serve with heat has improved from the videos I saw of the ASU matches last season and her backrow play is good enough to keep the DS out.My starters after tonight would be Mita, Hartong, Jane, Ashley, Jade, Kalei, Ali/L and Maeda/DS.
roofer68,
I like your starting lineup. I know Goodman and Stauber will also contribute this year. Do you see Tuaniga, and especially Hagins getting playing time?
I see them coming in only at the end of the sets or starting the 3rd set when the opponents are getting overwhelmed in the first two sets. From what I saw tonight TK is ahead of Steph.
see new thread for a recap.
So why didn’t all of you come over to say hi during the scrimmage?
I was about to when I saw you walking from the court after set two. I was coming back in but you made a right hand turn before I could greet you. Yes that was me.
