No where to go but up. I think that the Bows need to have a good season or…

  • warriofan December 29, 2012 at 11:48 pm

It’s pretty sick to see Cal Baptist and Geroge Mason ahead of UH.

I don’t really get the Lewis love.

    • jmy December 30, 2012 at 10:46 am

I agree, although Cal Baptist has pulled some pretty big upsets over the years…

  • Karmady December 30, 2012 at 6:26 am

They won’t have a good season because what needed to change hasn’t. Hope to be proven wrong but doubt it.

    • setaone December 30, 2012 at 2:24 pm

Setting will be better this year.

      • Karmady December 30, 2012 at 2:32 pm

Maybe. But the best setter in the world won’t fix the biggest problem.

        • warriofan December 30, 2012 at 2:34 pm

Karmady either say what it is , or shut it!

          • Karmady December 30, 2012 at 3:42 pm

Nice, Warriofan (sic). I thought it would be crystal clear to anyone who watched them last year; the coaching is not what it should be, certainly at the Division I level let alone the most loaded conference in the country. No leadership or discipline (hence lotsa serving errors), no camraderie, no teamwork.
Sam Biscaro got pilloried for stuff that went way beyond his area of control, while it seemed to me the coaching staff largely got a pass. The hateful comments on all of these blogs didn’t help matters.
As for JP, I think he’s probably used to a program with a different style- he clearly has the skills, but you can’t put a disciplined player into chaos and expect him to thrive. Forcing players to shave and wear jerseys with an acronym on the back won’t fill the leadership vacuum.

          • warriofan December 30, 2012 at 6:01 pm

That’s funny coaching wasn’t an issue when they had a decent setter, and strong terminator/ good blocking middles in the 2010 season. He even outcoached Legendary Marv Dunphy in the playoffs….

      • warriofan December 30, 2012 at 2:34 pm

Agreed, now hopefully they can improve their serving. Way too many errors last season. I hope JP will improve greatly he was a big disappointment as a freshmen.

        • jmy December 30, 2012 at 3:03 pm

I’m hoping that their level of concentration is higher…It was frustrating to see them hang tough but not be able to finish…But I agree that the serving has to improve, especially when things get tight…

    • jmy December 30, 2012 at 3:01 pm

I assume you’re talking about coaching…I think that this is a pivotal year for Charlie Wade & co…if they don’t have a good season, this could be his swan song…I’m hoping for the best…

      • kaleiboy December 30, 2012 at 6:41 pm

Agreed…..if not a good season 2013, UH should really think about discontinuing Men’s VB……

        • warriofan December 30, 2012 at 7:29 pm

Get real, UH will never discontinue mens volleyball. it’s basically the only men’s sport that has a chance to win the national championship.

          • Beauston December 30, 2012 at 9:04 pm

Thats too bad for Charlie to be in a tough position this year coming off of a real bad one last season, I think he does a real good job in recruiting, as for coaching, I have to agree, yet to be proven.

        • Cindy Luis December 30, 2012 at 10:44 pm

They aren’t going to drop men’s volleyball.

  • Ron December 31, 2012 at 6:36 am

We don’t have anywhere to go but up. We might be 0-5 at the start but we will turn it around about mid-season and be a force by play-off time. IMHO. Happy New Year Cindy, hope to see you on the 10th.

  • The Big Question December 31, 2012 at 7:31 am

Do any of you think Wade would have been more successful if he had stayed on the women’s side of the sport ?

    • WaWa December 31, 2012 at 10:03 am

Hard to tell with the results he had at Pacific, but I do feel that his “stock” went down as a result of the recent lack of success of the Men’s team. He seemed to be the “People’s Choice” for #1 Assistant Coach in the NCAA Div 1 at the time he left for Stockton.

I think if Scott is going to be the Sand VB Coach, we need a full-tiime assistant. Let Wade return to the nest. Not sure if Ah Mow is being groomed to succeed Dave, but could you imagine that coaching combo? Charlie has been one of the best training coaches and with Ah Mow coaching the setters…that might make for a strong duo to someday take the reigns when Dave retires (which hopefully he never does or the entire state of Hawaii will just collapse and economy will crash and little girls will no longer want to be Rainbow Wahine).

Good news for Big West RPI and Hawaii Scheduling is Boise State will most likely not join the Big West

  • setaone December 31, 2012 at 1:25 pm

In Men’s volleyball there will always be a ton of service errors. Serve too soft and the other team will just kill it.

  • turfwar December 31, 2012 at 5:59 pm

Biscaro simply didn’t have the skills to execute a back set. Made things very easy to defend.

  • vballfreak808 January 2, 2013 at 9:42 pm

Since things are a little slow now days, here are some Men’s volleyball results around the west coast.

#1 UC Irvine def. Concordia Irvine (3-2)
#6 UCLA is swept by Alberta (0-3) [Team from Canada that beat Pepperdine in 5]

Can’t wait for Hawaii vs. BYU on Friday
