So does this mean that the event has now become a private affair between the Pac-10 and the Big 12? Or will the AVCA condescend to having the other conferences involved? Or, since Nebraska is hosting until 2010 and, I assume, is going to get an automatic invite each year, does that mean it’s going to be the Big-12 vs another conference?

It’s a cute idea but I already miss the old format. The AVCA Showcase used to be a gathering of several of the best teams in the nation (If I were Penn State I’d be pissed off about the change in format )not some meaningless pissing contest between conferences.

On top of that, twice in three years, Omaha will be hosting the women’s championship. Don’t blame the NCAA if they can pack 17,000 in there. Where are the best volleyball fans when their team isn’t in the top tier? Really appreciate the Bulletin for posting volleyball news.

A very good question. But there was heavy discussion a while back from the NCAA types ;to either make Nebraska the permanent site for women’s volleyball final four, like Omaha hosts the CWS. Or to have Nebraska and Hawaii alternate as final four sites.
with the price of air fare, Hawaii’s going to be a tough sell now.

UH and Penn State in 2005 AVCA and then in Rainbow Classic that year. This year Penn State in Hawaii. Shouldn’t the AVCA people rename it the AVCA/Nebraska Invitational, which is what its turning into anyway. Maybe the Final Four should be renamed too, like the Nebraska Four. Nebraska won’t have to travel for 1st game or last game of year if they win the championship every year. I’m wondering how Nebraska will fair this year.
