BYUH’s Navalta retiring

December 7th, 2012

It was a sad phone call when I reached Wil in Florida tonight.

He told his players that he tonight after the loss that it was his  last match. And then he told me.

He took over in 1985 with a record of 611-145 and 10 national titles.

I’ll miss him. Just a really good guy.

That’s sad to hear. He had a great career so congrats to him! It will be tough to replace him

He has had a great career. He tired from teaching last year and this was the first year as a full-time coach. But he’s 67, ready to concentrate on developing youth volleyball.
He has his Ph.D. presented this thesis at Oxford.
He’s recommended Mona Afalava Ah How to replace him but said that it will be a school decision.

I wonder if Shoji will retire at the same age as well or when his contract runs out. A good time would be after this big bunch of seniors retire next year. Let a younger coach deal with a new crop of girls.
