Had answered this elsewhere but … Olevao is in warmups, Her left leg heavy with the KT tape that mimics tendons and adds support.
A number of those upsets last night tonight should help UH, especially Cal beating Oregon, Miami and Florida State losing. UCLA losing twice to the Arizona teams might a wash of things.
All Hawaii can do is to keep winning and hope for the best when the seedings come out.
As for tonight, UH starting Adolpho, Hartong, Uiato, Maeda, Croson, Vorster, Long … not sure who the other OH will be.

Volleyshots

As long as the Wahine, and Stanford, keep winning it will bold well for the Wahine.
Goodman in on the right. Nice save set by Uiato to Adolpho. Wahine trail 6-5
Great dig by Maeda leads to a Croson kill. UH up 8-7.
Another kill by Vorster makes it 9-7. TO CP
stats as of the first timeout. UH 9-5-16, CP 2-0-7. Vorster 2-1-3, Croson 1-2-5, Uiato 2-0-2, Adolpho 1-0-1, Longo 1-0-1. nice shot by the libero. 0 ace, 1 SE 5 digs.
Wahine playing well on transition, Great defense and Maeda’s serves giving Cal Poly trouble. UH up 19-14.
Stauber in. Hartong moves to the right with Kastl in on the left.
UH needed three swings at it but wins Set 1 25-19 on a kill by Adolpho.
UH hits 324, Vorster 2-1-4, Croson 4-3-12, Uiato 2-0-2, Hartong 4-0-7, Adolpho 2-0-3, Goodman 1-1-4,
0 aces, 2 SEs, 2 blocks, 12 digs.
Cal Poly got it together late, hit 286. Schleis with 4 kills, 1 aces, 2 SE, 11 digs. 1 block
Olevao in to start Set 2. with Croson and Hartong.
Kawamura in to serve at 5-5.
A couple of heaters by both Hartong and Croson mkes it 12-9. TO CP.
Hartong hitting 692 (9-0-13). Croson is 8-3-17.
Olevao stuffed on the right. CP ties it at 16-16. TO UH.
Maeda’s serving still giving the Mustangs problems. UH on a 4-0 run. 20-16. TO CP
Olevao not having a good night. Time to open that revolving door again. Goodman and KASTL are waiting
I would give Oleavo a break. not like she got a lot of chances 1-1-3 in one set. but her ankle not 100 percent. And 2 of those sets were very tight with her hitting on the right side.
Besides Beau, Goodman started Thursday and tonight.
not so much a dig on Olevao, i didnt say anything different from what you said. I knew Shoji was going to use this game for the revolving door regardless. It drives me crazy being just weeks away from the tourney but oh well.
Maeda is showing that she’s the senior on the floor with UH’s 4-0 run
UH finishes Set 2 on a 9-1 run. 25-17. Stats in a bit
Maeda is playing well.
Do Monica Stauber from Hawaii and Megan McConnell from Cal Poly look similar? What do you think?
Hadn’t noticed the similarity.
In set 3 UH hit 448. 17-4-29. CP 182.
Vorster 4-2-8, Croson 9-3-20, Uiato 2-0-2, Hartong 11-1-16, Adolpho 4-1-8, Goodman 1-1-4, Olevao 1-1-3. 1 aces (Maeda), 5 SE, 19 digs, 4 blocks.
Set 3 Tuaniga starting and Haggins. Hartong, Croson, Maeda, Long. not sure yet about the other OH. Probably Goodman.
Stauber in. UH down 1-3. Turnstile 5652, tickets 7177.
omg the subs.
Stauber a good choice since she works more with the second team middles.
Wrong guess … Kastl in. Hartong goes right.
Ace by Lslepali makes it 9-6.
im glad they’re doing something!
blocks and aces for days.
UH on a 5-1 run. Up 11-6. TO CP.
Great save by Hartong. set went wide to Hagins who missed it Hartong covered, dig went over. UH won the point. Hartong from 3 meters makes it’ 16-7
Kam into serve for Hartong at 17-7.
UH up 19-8. Hagins getting a lot of touches on CP attempts. TO CP.
on the court at the moment. Kam, Kastl, Long, Stauber, Croson and Hagins. interesting group.
I’ve got to say, Stauber setting in set 3 is impressive, she’s holding her own amidst some miscues. She runs a much faster tempo.
Stauber doing OK IMHO. but a nice dump set by her makes it 20-11. Tuangia back in.
couple of out balls by Croson makes it 21-15. Solo stuff by Tuaniga makes it 22-15. Long in for Croson to serve.
A little ragged out there. was 17-7 Now 22-18. TO UH.
Kastl ends it 25-19
yup set 3 ragged, but Calpoly did not score any more than they did in set 1 where Wahine’s starting line up played and Uiato setting so I’ll take it.
Ended the match with their 2nd unit. Easy night for Hartong, did not play much of the 3rd set.
Does UH get an automatic entry into NCAA tournament now ?
I heard something like that from Scott and Tiff on the radio.
Yes, UH clinches conference title and auto berth.
So they don’t have a Big West season ending tournament like in the WAC.
No the Big West does not have a tournament.
Now that Monica Stauber is being interviewed in the post-game show, I can now notice a difference between her and Megan McConnell. So I was wrong.
good to see staubs at the post interview.
good grief, where did the season went, 5 more games and onto the tourney?
I was one of the many who was dying for the season to start and now I feel like it’s going to fast. arrrg
What I like about Shoji moving Hartong around, either the LS or RS, they will be hard to prepare for. I do not think, no other team moves their Star player around like this, or having her be effective from either position.
Hartong is amazingly versatile and has a great competitive attitude. She has always said she’ll play wherever as long as she gets to play.
Thank you Dave Shoji and the Wahine for keeping excellence in UH Athletics for decades. As the football program goes through another deep valley, the Wahine are always on the top of heap and are relevant in the national title picture year after year.
I think Shoji and the Wahine should be the showcase of UH athletics. UH should downgrade football and upgrade the wahine volleyball. Let’s reward Shoji with a lucrative contract and divert funds from football to help Shoji take the Wahine from top ten to a national title dynasty.
I am a huge fan of UH football but I am also a realist. Unless we can get a football coach that can do what Dave Shoji does by winning with whatever talent he has on hand, football will continue to languish.
Let’s end the agony. Drop the football program and let’s put all our eggs in the Wahine Volleyball basket. Imua!!
I totally agree with you Black Bean. Football should go and volleyball can use far more support.
