Catching up after flying into Vegas

By Cindy Luis

Sorry didn’t have good internet connection until this morning.

Was on the same flight as the team. Very, very bumpy. The people on the flight were very happy they were with the team. Was right ahead of Shoji as we boarded. I thought I was way back in the plane at 38. he was like in 42. but it was the only seat with a window available and he wanted to take a nap. It was amazing that he walked down and everyone kept saying good luck, good luck. I asked him if he felt like he knew the whole plane. He laughed and said that it sometimes feels like it.

Team checked in early … we got to the hotel around 7. they spent most of the day sleeping. Banquet was last night. I didn’t go (went to an amazing Santana concert instead). I think Shoji was surprised about his coach of the year, tho. I knew the all-WAC team Friday but was sworn to secrecy. It was interesting asking Shoji Saturday morning who his pick was for Coach of the Year. He voted for Idaho.

Saw a few players in the elevator this morning. They have practice at 2 p.m. LV time.

Just had a nice chat with Alexis Robins. We’re both looking for wireless. She’s trying to finish a paper for school.

Such a nice young woman. I’ve known her family since her Auntie Mary played for the Wahine starting in 86. She’s very excited to make her first road trip.

    Ms Luis,

Thank you for your coverage. I was just wondering if you could shed some light on the “traveling roster.” In your last post I believe you said only 13 are traveling to Vegas for the WAC tournament. I’m assuming its economics but I was hoping that some of the ladies that typically are not on the travel roster would be allowed to travel to the WAC tournament. Will this change when the team advances throughout the NCAA Tournament?

As a fan I always hope that some of the walk-ons or players who are not in the regular rotation see some game action. From what I see, they work hard and they are deserving to be a part of the team and “with the team” as they progress through the post season. Thoughts? Insight?

Yes, the limits change for the ncaa. Robins is here and she is a walk-on. Get back to you more on that. In the arena and have to go chat with the team.

Lots of green H’s around the casino… As for WiFi, saw a lot of laptops at Seattle’s Best near the business center… That might be the best bet (well, next to the Bows winning the tourney)… Go Bows!!!

Thanks Cindy for all your tireless work. Envy you being there and we’re here waiting for tomorrow.

That flt to Vegas would have been a perfect flt to be on to meet the team.( if Shoji would allow it)

This past Wednesday on the radio I heard that Coach Shoji said Aneli Cubi-Ontineru was not 100%. (then again who’s 100% this late in the season) So, wondering if it would be a good to rest her till the NCAA tournament. Think that would be a good idea to give other players a chance or would that disrrupt the team chemistry? Just asking …

  7. Cindy Luis Says:

no, overnight flight meant for trying to get some rest. Plus so bumpy they weren’t even serving hot drinks.

  8. Cindy Luis Says:

got my WiFi to work at the coffee place too. lots of players from all the teams trying to keep up on schoolwork.

  9. Cindy Luis Says:

Aneli has a nagging leg injury, you’ll see her wrapped during the matches, iced afterwards. she’s been playing with it for almost two seasons so don’t think she’ll be rested. And these matches too important for any kind of slip.

yup Cindy…we all envy you! Thanks for giving us also the human aspects…I enjoy reading it and experiencing it all vicariously…Scary flt…so bumpy but glad you are all there safe and sound!!!!!
