Cayman Shutter considering UH

By Dave Reardon

Punahou quarterback Cayman Shutter told us today that he considers himself still a solid commit to New Mexico.

“But I”m going to talk to Coach McMackin. I would consider de-committing for UH,” Shutter said at the conclusion of UH’s camp today.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Shutter drew attention — and a scholarship offer from the Warriors – with his quick release and accurate arm.

Sightings today at the UH camp: Former Warriors quarterback Jack Rolovich, helping out on camp staff. Jack is living in Hawaii now and working on a master’s at HPU. … Former UH basketball player David Hallums. He and Robin Kami, one of the fastest guys in the OIA during his playing days, brought a contingent of players from Pearl City, their alma mater where they are now coaching. … Saint Louis’ new head coach, John Hao, another former UH quarterback, was also in attendance. … Former UH offensive lineman Joe Onosai was there. … Vili Fehoko did the haka, and Brad Kalilimoku led a ha’a. … Kenny Patton worked the camp, as did David “Happy” Gilmore, the new GA and former safety. … I didn’t recognize punter Tim Grasso at first, as his hair is dark now and not bleached. He was working with snapper Jake Ingram.

Thanks Dave for the update and hopefully same time next year Andrew Manley will be wanting to do the same too:-).

  2. Kyle Says:

Dave, always good to hear updates like this. Have you seen Steele Jantz throw the football? If so, what is your opinion?

    Thanks again.

  3. Dave Reardon Says:

Haven’t seen Steele throw yet, Kyle, but I’ve heard good things about him.

How are things in Pullman, or are you home for the summer?

  4. guardian Says:

Although Shutter sounds like he has a lot of potential, I’m surprised the Warriors have already offered him a scholarship. I thought they were only going to bring in 2 QBs for 2009. Does that mean QB recruiting would be pau for 2009 (except for walk-ons) if he commits to UH?

  5. Rob Says:

Attention to detail. Thats what I love about reading your write ups. love to hear what going on with the old school players. You got anything on former bball players from UH.

  6. dan Says:

cayman is a solid player but considering him to attend UH and become the QB is a bit of a reach.

i see him more of a solid DII or DIII QB

and i’ve seen about 80 percent of the ILH games at aloha stadium over the past 3 or 4 years. so its not like i know nothing about the guy

    nonetheless, solid QB
just in the same school as manti te’o making him a bit overrated

  7. VegasDrew Says:

Put the shoe on the other foot. What if UH had a ’solid commit to be a Warrior’; but the dude says I would decommit for (insert antoher team here).

    Part of the recruiting game??

  8. Dave Reardon Says:

You may already know this stuff, since it’s already been reported in the SB. But just in case you haven’t: Carl English is playing for the Canadian national team. … Matt Lojeski is on the Milwaukee Bucks’ NBA summer league squad. … Bobby Nash has signed with a pro team in Japan.

  9. Dave Reardon Says:

If a super stud QB comes along between now an NLI day, they’ll take him and grayshirt someone.

  10. 2 slaps from Hilo Says:

any truth to the rumor that Manti is headed for a misison after he graduates?

  11. 2 slaps from Hilo Says:

Best of wishes and luck to Manti, whatever he does. God given talent, and from a really solid family.

  12. Jdawg Says:

Actually, Matt Lojeski is playing with the Milwaukee Bucks summer league team and he started today.

  13. Kalani Says:

Dude… he’s a three star QB prospect on Scout.com and rated as the 59th best QB in the country. The last time we had a QB nationally rated that high was uh… never. The Neilson kid is rated around 100th. Plus he’s already got an offer from a MWC D1 school.

  14. Dave Reardon Says:

So I had it right the first time? I swear I read T-Wolves somewhere. … Yup, went back and looked again, Bucks it is.

  15. Kyle Says:

Just got back to Pullman after spending a week on Maui. Awesome trip. Hope all is well.
