Chris McLachlin alive and well at Stanford
By Cindy Luis
sorry, this was under the wrong category
Have had a number of people ask recently. I put something up in August but guess it’s too hard to find it.
Chris is a volunteer assistant with the men’s program at Stanford, where younger son Spencer plays. The Cardinal staff had some medical problems so this is working out well for both.
Chris was the player-coach for Stanford in the late 60s. if you go onto gostanford.com you can see a picture of him when he was in school and when the school announced he was joining the staff.
Stanford will be here Thanksgiving week to play the Warriors. that will end Chris’ coaching stint.
He and wife Beth made a deal in the 70s when they were first married. She was gone a lot with the national team and he told her it was fine but there would come a day when he would go off to do something he wanted to do. This is the ‘day.’
Both great people. Chatted with Chris a few weeks ago when doing one of my stories on Shoji’s 1,000th. It’s been great for him because he’s able to get to son Parker’s golf tournament easier.

So when the Cardinal come here to play the Warriors, Chris will be through with coaching them after that?

Thanks, Cindy, for the update on Chris McLachlin. He may yet return to be Jim Leahy’s
buddy again on UH Wahine Volleyball telecasts.

That’s what Chris told me. he’ll be done as of Thanksgiving week and will be staying in Hawaii.
