    Buenos Dias from San Diego
Just to let you know my daugther Pua (USDHS 99′) was appointed Aven Lee’s replacement at Iolani School. She’ll serve as the Assistant Varsity Coach for girls volleyball. She was Iolani’s middle school coach last season. Her team of talented 8th graders played in the Middle School Championship vs. Kam. I was lucky to be in the Islands to watch the match. It was a great match. Even Kimo thought it was a great match, and he seldom shows up at his sister’s matches. Prior to moving over to Iolani, Pua coached the St. Louis middle school boys team to the Catholic Middle School Championship. She was also the assistant coach at McKinley High with Fiona Nepo. Half way through the season Pua became the head coach*. At the time the school had a losing record, but she managed to pull the team together and they finished tied for 6th in the State Tournament.
I think she has the makings of a good coach. She and I are surprised that Kimo has no interest to coach.
    * It’s a long story. Some BS at McKinley. Nothing to do with Fiona and Pua. Fiona has always been a good mentor to Pua. There was so much crap at McKinley that Pua did not return to McKinley the next year.
    Hope all is well.

Thanks for letting me know Jim. I’ll let our Prep writer know. Hope all is well with you as well. You know, I’m USDHS 73.

I knew that, that is why I mentioned Pua’s class. Last September Pua flew back to San Diego to be inducted into USDHS Sports Hall of Fame. All of the inductees were females. Pretty impressive group of female athletes.
Pua is also the freshmen/soph class counselor for St. Louis High School. She’s the young “chick” on this all male campus. We’ll be in the Islands next weekend for Pua graduation. She receives her Masters in Counseling from Chaminade University.
Sort of an interesting situation. Teacher at St. Louis and a coach at Iolani.
