All deserving of recognition for hardwork and performance this year. Results aside HI VB still near the top and entertaing and competitive. Some have gone on to wonderful college careers and are excellent role models for young girls here. As Coach Navalta moves on a fitting honor for him. Congratulations.

I noticed that Emily Hartong was the only Big West Player to make All-American while four other Big West Players beside Mita Uato earned honors: liberos from UCSB, Taylor Formica and Irvine, Kristin Winkler; outside hitters from Long Beach, Chisom Opkala, and Fullerton, Kayla Neto. That’s all. This is a rare year, indeed that no California school garnered any All Americans in the Big West and altogether three California school had one player each win first team All American and none second or third team all American. First Team awards were much more diversified this year and you don’t see Penn State capturing three or more like previous years. Also note that only three teams had two players in first team, Penn State, Texas and Oregon, all Final Four teams. Michigan is the only team that has no All-Americans, the true underdog here in the Final Four.

Michigan had only one player on the all-regional team in their junior middle Cross.

Among the 14 players, Emily was the only player from a non-BCS school on the 1st team.

I just love Hartong’s attitude. Especially, about her asking to come home before Saturday’s Championship Match. Then Hartong’s following comment, “We should be there, I know we are good enough. It will be different next year. We will be there.” Now those are comments from a true LEADER, which Emily Hartong is.
