I noticed she is starting at opposite for the junior National team. I think Shoji might play her there her freshmen year.

    • Cindy Luis July 8, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Her UH career is a long ways away. yes, she is at opp, at least as of today.

  • po'okela July 8, 2010 at 10:44 pm

she can play on either sides but probably will start on the left for UH.

u know if the 2012 recruit visiting hawaii this weekend a serious one? she’d be a great replacement for danielson!

  • po'okela July 8, 2010 at 10:44 pm

argueably top 3 in her class!

  • Warriorfan July 8, 2010 at 11:00 pm

Jordan Burgess, Paulina Prieto, Haley Lawless or Brittany Howard? Which one of those is it?

either one of them would be a huge pick up for sure.

  • po'okela July 8, 2010 at 11:25 pm

its one of them for sure…

  • setaone July 9, 2010 at 7:42 am

    Is Croson a 2010 or 2011?

  • po'okela July 9, 2010 at 9:09 am

    croson is a 2011 recruit.

reminder – she’ll be here for the ann kang invitational if you guys want a sneak peak.

  • Cindy Luis July 9, 2010 at 10:13 am

croson is 2011. As for ‘visiting recruit’ no idea how serious. We thought Tabi Love was.

  • leftout July 9, 2010 at 1:48 pm

Be careful what we wish for. Hawaii struck gold with the unheralded Brittany Hewitt. Stats for their 2009 freshmen season. Hewitt 6’3″, games 96, kill pct. .343, solo blk 13, blk asst 115, blk ave 1.15. Tabitha Love 6’6″, 126 games, kill pct. .230, solo blk 12, blk asst 51, blk ave 0.50. The only other program that showed a lot of interest in Brittany was New Mexico State.

  • Cindy Luis July 9, 2010 at 2:09 pm

meant that Tabi was a ‘serious’ recruit. Shoji has been very good about developing talent.

  • kidlv July 9, 2010 at 2:10 pm

You can’t really compare a redshirt freshman middle blocker who had a year to learn a new system, to a true freshman outside hitter.

  • po'okela July 9, 2010 at 3:25 pm

yes you can – we’re not comparing apples and oranges here.

hewitt exceed everyone’s expectations including my own.
i had some hope for her after watching her play at the durango classic a couple of years back but the player she is now is nothing compared to the player she was back then.

fyi, the recruit visiting the islands this weekend is no tabi love or brit hewitt. if (a BIG if) she became a wahine – she’ll easily be an impact player all 4 years.

Leave it to those of the ‘hi_life’ [ ;-) ] to stir the pakini as it were; VT as a ‘source’ can be, for most, too gray anyway.

So funny…that the “big if” is all about being here–exclusively–on vacation with family. So she stopped by, on the beach mind you, for practice. When can all dare to dream though, eh? Sheesh!!!

      *I’m remembering B. Dieter, hah??? :-)

      • Cindy Luis July 9, 2010 at 5:07 pm

Was VT the source? haven’t been on that site in a while. it can be gray but there’s been a lot of truth on it, too.

        • ingoodstanding July 9, 2010 at 5:14 pm

You’re FAST! You must type 80 wpm???

VT. This Po’okela is a staple there. He/She is in on everything. Good for them, though.

No, Cindy, my appologies VT was not the source. I’m only trying to desperately get Po’o(s) goat. I don’t do VT that often, but yet as things tend to go…yes, they’re most often the first to post about all that’s vb. 24/7 (even for me, who’s an ABSOLUTLY LOVER of vb) It’s too much.

I doesn’t seem as though some of the ‘regulars’ ever sleep??? Po’o is on at the crack of dawn (i’ve witnessd and, yes, we’ve corresponded in ‘private’ a times). He/she i’ve often thought could literally be on the east coast for the time(s) of day that they long long on.

          • Cindy Luis July 9, 2010 at 5:18 pm

Don’t know if I still type 80 wpm but i used to back in the day. This will date me but … took shorthand about that quickly as well. now I use a tape recorder

          • ingoodstanding July 9, 2010 at 5:40 pm

Unlike your 80, I do the 35 and with oh sooo many errors.

I don’t know where to begin, but first of all “log on.” What the heck is “long long on?”

      • ingoodstanding July 9, 2010 at 5:07 pm

        “We can all dare…”

        • Cindy Luis July 9, 2010 at 5:19 pm

          Play nice kids.

          • ingoodstanding July 9, 2010 at 5:29 pm

Sometimes I can walaau for hours…just cut me off, why don’t you with the ‘reply’, control, buttons. ;-)

HI probably dn’t like (or maybe) to ‘know’ nomore IGS, anyway. :-) :-) :-)

All in fun. Again, mahalo for a great site.

  • po'okela July 9, 2010 at 3:27 pm

although some claim she may only be visiting while on vacation with her family. it takes a lot to take the time out of your ‘vacation’ to visit a campus you presumeably have no interest in…

looking forward for the next few years!

  • Cindy Luis July 9, 2010 at 3:40 pm

it should be great volleyball over the next few years.
as for taking time out … they’re driving around, see UH sign, decide to drop by out of curiosity. My son had no interest in attending several schools but he was interested in seeing the campuses while we driving in the area. still, anyone who knows volleyball would know about the Wahine and perhaps see what the arena looks like.

  • po'okela July 9, 2010 at 3:43 pm

well a source told me she actually didn’t stop by the campus but attended their beach practice today ;)

much different then just going to the campus to see what UH was all about ha!! heyyyyy i’m trying to stay positive.

    • Warriorfan July 9, 2010 at 10:24 pm

If this is Brittany Howard, I really hope she wants to be a wahine. Alot of people on volleytalk compare her to Alix Klineman.

  • Cindy Luis July 9, 2010 at 3:49 pm

and your source sounds like a good one. didn’t think you were being anything but positive.

  • Warriorfan July 9, 2010 at 7:58 pm

Jane is looking really really good at opposite. She led the US again in the semifinals with 19 points.

  • kidlv July 9, 2010 at 9:23 pm

Sorry for not being specific, but the previous poster compared both Tabi love and Brittney Hewitt by statistics. So yes it is comparing apples to oranges because they both play different positions. The MB will likelier have the higher kill pct and blocking pct.

  • leftout July 10, 2010 at 12:33 am

Yes there is some truth in that, a good outside kill pct is only around .280. But both Minnesota middles were 6’2″, with Tabi’s 6’6″ thats a formidable block. Yet Brittany was able to accomplish her blk assist stats mostly with OH’s who were 5’10″ & 5’11″ and in thirty less sets.

  • Warrior15 July 13, 2010 at 1:54 pm

i agree, it’s awfully tough to compare players at different positions, no less, just by using stats. as an OH, Love will have fewer block attempts than a middle, regardless of the games played.

also, if I remember, Minnesota’s lineup shifted a lot. Love was tried out as both Opp and a LS, before cementing her spot on the left. I think she struggled at the start of the season, and that’s reflected in her stats.

But by the time the NCAA tourney rolled around, there was no question Love was their terminator (especially with Dieter leaving the team). Hewitt (who came into her own in her own right) was not asked to play that type of role for HI.
