Dane Uperesa starts college coaching career
By Dave Reardon
Don ‘t be surprised to see an influx of talent from Hawaii at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Dane Uperesa, a standout at right tackle on Hawaii’s 11-3 team of 2006, will coach the offensive line there. Mike Pavich, who coached Uperesa at Punahou, is also coaching at IWCC. Uperesa’s fiancee is at dental school right across the Iowa-Nebraska stateline at Creighton.

Thats good to hear, a good start for Dane. Mike Pavich was at the AFCA Conference collecting video on all the local boys, hoping to get a dozen or so. Having Dane there will surely help.
Abu Maafala is also starting his coaching career as a GA at Louisville. He really enjoyed watching all the video, asking about all the players he knew – especially about his cousins Benson and Nick. His wife is in nursing school in Louisville.
Nice to see two men following their wives for their careers for a change!

Thanks for the info Doris. Of course it also means these guys could be recruiting against the Warriors someday. Or for them! But good luck to both in their journey into college coaching.
