Early offer
By Dave Reardon
This from Doris Sullivan: Reeve Koehler, Kailua Intermediate School 8th grader, brother of Solomon Koehler from the University of Arizona, has been offered a football scholarship by Coach Greg McMackin at the University of Hawaii. Reeve is 6-2, 265 at 13 years old.Reeve has never played organized football due to weight limits in the Pop Warner league. His football experience has so far been limited to the Brian Derby Clinics for 3 years, competed at the PIAA football combine and the University of Hawaii Clinics.

Sounds like this kid will be a beast in 4 years. Gotta love Mack. Is this the first time in UH history to extend a scholie this early?

No, I got a call and email from Doris Sullivan, like Bobby did.

As far as anyone knows.
Although I remember someone saying decades ago when Alvis Satele and Lee Ann Pestana got married, that UH should offer scholarships to any children, even before they were born. (They are Brashton’s parents.)

The question I have now is whether he attends Castle to anchor the trenches for Coach Nelson Maeda or surfaces at a private school. The thing that Castle has in its favor is that he will not get more exposure with colleges by attending the likes of Punahou, Iolani or St. Louis since he will already be on the radar screen. In addition, he will not have to wake up earlier to commute to Castle.

Oops. I should have said Kailua High.
With an offer made this early, I think it confirms Coach Mack’s intent to be here for the entire five year term of his contract, if not more.

offering an 8th grader? what a joke, makes a hypocrisy of the system itself. the kid should do well, keep up the grades and work on his skills. thanks to Doris for staying on top of everything, she always has the most current news on the ‘blue chip’ athletes…

I havent heard his dad or mom say anything about Reeve going on to Kailua. Im pretty sure he’ll be at Castle, though you never know if an ILH school will come into the picture. But for now, he’s an 8th grader and a 13 year old and I hope even though with his size people will continue to remember this. I hope everyone allows him to grow up without all the criticizm the older boys get. He’s a nice young man.

The kid is for real. It is early but you know what it does…it lets him know he gets his school paid for if he starts and finished academically sound in High School. Likely he will get many more offers.
I am sure Derby helped some cause even if he did not play i bet his feet are fast and he can move that big frame!
Thanks for Brian for a great Oregon Camp last week! We shoock the ground over here again for 5 days and him and Coach Mike Beazley, Samson Kela; Doug Hire, Daryl Agpalsa, Aleki Pascua, Ernie Nihi, Toots Kaahanui, and others make a formidable group to learn from. We had over 120 kids in 2 sessions and it was a memorable experience.
Thanks to all of our Polynesian Brothers for coming to our camp and donating a week of their lives to our boys here in Oregon!!
Aloha my brothers and thanks.
Much love;
Coach Dirk Knudsen and Team

6′2″ and 265 at 13 years old? Is it legal to be that size at that age?
August 11th, 2008 at 10:09 am
I was running at Castle the other day. Reeve was doing a few laps. I thought to myself, man he’s gotten huge. Not fat huge. MAN huge. He’s got a V like a bodybuilder. I hope Rick keeps Reeve at Castle. We got a pretty good Ohana here. I can just imagine him at Tight end, catching passes and making touchdowns. Goi Knights!
