Texas wins for the first time again since 1988, UCLA last year for the first time since 1991, It’s hawaii’s turn next!

  • MGM

I can feel it! Next year will be a POWERHOUSE for the Wahine team….

  • Kauaiboy

Way to stay positive but unless we get a real threat at opposite then there is no way our team can beat Texas , penn st, USC or Stanford ..

    • Beauston

Yup, Hawaii’s 1-2 punch wont do. We either get a terminator for an opposite/RS or new setter who will rvenly spread offense between LS and the middles. Middles are moe than capable, they just need reps. It is not exactly a confidence booster of your setter does not send your way because Uiato dont hink you can terminate the balls

    • rnr

I’m thinking the person that wanted to transfer out may have been a RS/opposite hitter at least i hope… that way Niki Taylor can start at RS… see what she can produce out there… she certainly has the height… and setting- Uiato received honorable mention so thats not to shabby, hopefully Higgins will motivate/challenge her more!

      • Beauston

Uaito is a good setter, but witht the arrival of Higgins who just made max preps all american, she either becomes better or bench warmer. Higgins has all the skill set to challenge Uiato.

  • K-Bay

Everyone Needs One or Two (More)…

But a “Surprise” Transfer/Recruit Six-Position Terminator would Provide Depth and Game Closeout

(BASIS: The Principle: ASK & Receive…
Had it Before … Can Again…Now?)

  • Tayler Higgins is one of the 15 players named 1st team MaxPrep 2012 girls HS AA.

  • Jesse

Thats interesting have no idea how kan got gatorade and state poy over Higgins. Don’t get me wrong carly is very good I just think it’s clear higgins was punahou’ mvp.

    • So true, I like Carly but Tayler Higgins is the quarterback and she makes the team go. Maxpreps proves that out by making her 1st team and probably had to put Carly somewhere because of the Gatorade and SA’s player of the year awards.

    Hawaii ranked 11th

Texas. Oregon, Penn State, Stanford, Michigan in Top 5

  • As usual, only the post season counts even in the AVCA poll. Michigan #5 is a joke, from 33 to 5 with 12 losses during the season? Seems like what you did during the season is out the window, only what you do in post season counts.

    • Cindy Luis

The AVCA poll is based on what happens in the tournament. That Michigan got to the final four is part of the reasoning.
No one complained last year (at least here) that Hawaii was No. 5 in the poll. and they didn’t even make the regional final.

sad but true ~ ALL a team has to do IS WIN!!! Best way to prove to critics.

IMUA UH RAINBOW WAHINE, IMUA…..

  • Beauston

Ok random thought, I think Kim W was a senior when Kanie Kamana’o set as a freshman. Next season, Hartong will be a senior and Higgins comes in, a repeat perhaps?

      • Cindy Luis

Yes, Kamana’o was a freshman when Willoughby and Kahumoku were seniors. Kamana’o was the national FOY.

        • Beauston

Looking forward to see how Higgins step up her game to a D1 college level like Kamana’o did hence winning the NFOY.
Setters are so instrumental in leading their team that I really hope Uiato have a season best on her senior year next year. She’s a really good setter and have since develop wonderfully to help guide this team but am afraid that we’ve seen her best. Next year for the Wahine was like the 2009 team for me, i just dont know if Uiato is the setter to take us to the final four and ultimately the finals. We all know by now, LS-centric offense will only take you so far in the tourney.

          • Another Perspective

Lol. Um, a true Freshman who was not even the best player coming out of HS is not going to beat out 3yr. starting Senior Uiato.

  • Really?!?

anyone know why emily hartong isn’t on the sand vball roster?

  • volleyball fan

The key for winning next year is sharp, crisp passing. Then the setter can set the middles or anyone she pleases to. The girls need to practice passing and serving day in and day out.

  • SamIAm

Just like i said , To predictable , needs to be mixed up and at a much ,much , FASTER PACE . Then we will COMPETE at the highest level . GO WAHINE !!!!!!!!

  • hammajang

It does not matter who the setter is. If the pass to the setter is too far off the net, she can only set the outside (predictable). If they improve their passes to the setter and improve their defense, they will get to the final four. Hartong and Croson are not good back row defenders, but Dave cannot afford to take them out. Uiato should be seasoned for her last year. Watching the Japan team play ealier this year, it was interesting to see their setter take a quick look at Hawaii’s defense right before she set the ball. Maybe Uiato should do that. Not easy but can’t hurt. Should be interesting next year.
