From the Superdome

NEW ORLEANS >> Just got back from Georgia’s practice at the Superdome. Surreal to be at the place where so much history was made two years ago … and we’re not even talking about football, but rather the Katrina situation.
Mark Richt was very interesting in his comments today, as were Georgia players. Players and coach very classy.
Richt talked about taking his team bowling the night before Thanksgiving to keep them loose.
Paul Arnett will have a story in TODAY’s Star-Bulletin (p.m. edition) with TODAY’S news, as well as a piece tomorrow.
I’m headed to June Jones’ press conference and then the Saints’ practice facility for UH practice.
Glad we got that “protected” posting thing fixed. Check in with you later.
UPDATE: June Jones chatted with Saints coach Sean Payton and GM Mickey Loomis as practice got underway this afternoon at the Saints facility. On the way over, we passed many houses that were flooded two years ago and are in various stages of repair … or not. Quite a solemn feeling. The mood was lightened when we passed the “Jade Moon Chinese Restaurant.” All of us Hawaii people got a laugh out of that, making jokes about 25-year-old Zippy’s commercials and electricity, and the Georgia and New Orleans guys were wondering what was so funny. We’re gonna try to get them to stop the bus tomorrow so we can get pictures.
Practice seemed pretty normal for the half hour we were allowed to be there. The Saints place looked kind of like the Kibbie Dome, but without seats. There were several excercise bikes, and two were occupied by Keao Monteilh and Victor Clore. I think you can count on neither of them playing in the Sugar Bowl.
Of course, Colt Brennan was the most popular interview subject, and Paul Arnett said “Colt was on fire,” referring to his glib and articulate answers.
Adam Leonard was another popular interview, doing his best to dispel the notion of UH as an offense only team.
We had a great lunch/dinner at a place near the hotel. Somehow I missed out on gator meat when I lived in Florida, but I had it grilled today, and it was great.
I’m either going to meet the shooters on Bourbon Street for some shooters, or I’m going to Harrah’s. Or maybe both.

Invitation to Johnny White’s Pub & Grill on Bourbon St. They’ll be open all week leading up to the game so stop in and say hi to former Hawaii resident and UH alumnus Lynn Sapir and his wife, Jeaneen. If you plan to come to his tailgate party, let us know you’re coming by posting on the linked thread:

So Dave. what is the weather situation there? I saw Steve Uyehara’s report on KGMB and he said that it was freezing, in the 50’s during the day. I don’t mind the 40-50’s but I hear that the higher humidity there could possibly drop the real feel temp considerably lower. Does it seem to you as though the players are more able to relax now that they have left Hawaii and all of the recent overzealous fans here? Have fun.
It was a beautiful day today, mild, in the 60s. I wore a short sleeve shirt, but carried around my jacket fearing rain like yesterday. It cools off fast, though, and it will likely dip into the 40s tonight if it hasn’t already.
It’s not freezing, but it might seem that way to most people who live in Hawaii.
Dress in layers if you’re going to be out at night and make sure you have a raincoat of some type and head gear.
Is the pregame tailgate party at Johnny Whites open to all ages? We will have some keikis in tow.
Mahalo for making this happen. Can’t wait to get to NOLA.
From the cold Pacific NW.
