Training started yesterday. here’s first entry

I arrived in Columbus, Ohio at 8:30 this morning, where I was greeted by some of the USA coaches. We continued our journey on to Ohio Dominican University. The University is providing us with dorm rooms, meals, as well as a gymnasium for the next eight days.

Once all the girls were situated in the dorm room ‘suites’, we headed over to the dining hall for dinner. Shortly after, we made our way over the gymnasium and were introduced to the elite coaching staff; then we began our first official A2 Olympic Training Team practice. We practiced for two hours, mostly drills, until we competed for the last forty minutes.

Although today was a fairly short practice, I can already tell that this experience is going to be one of a lifetime. I am honored to have the opportunity to be playing with such an esteemed program and to be able to meet and compete with the top collegiate athletes all over the country. I’ve already met so many interesting girls and have learned a lot just in those short two hours on the court. These next eight days are going to be an awesome cap to my summer right before I head back to Hawaii!

I read an articel a while ago that the initial A2 player tryouts conducted months ago were not invitations extended by national team. Rather each collegiate program choose who they wanted to send and paid for the expenses.
As I logged onto the various wvb websites many mentioned the fact that some of their vb players were attending the tryouts as if to validate the athletes and their program. No mention that it was all their own doing.
The training that Emily is going through now is by invitation of the national program.

Really confused with what your trying to say here, so was the try out not really a try out extended by the national team but the training is?

Players are not invited to the first tryout.Schools pay the entry fees and can send as many as they afford.Players who make the cut are then invited to participate in the A2 program.

Yes, the tryout a few months ago consisted of players that were sent/cost paid by their schools, not specifically invited to tryout by the national program. From that group 48 were selected to return as A2 members by the national program. In show business terms the tryout was similar to a cattle call.

Got it, thanks guys. Interesting, one way for national program to get quality players for the A2 team without having to pay for those who wants to tryout. Brilliant!

just saw in the news that assistant vb coach vernon P. quit his position. guess, the handwriting is on the wall, this will definitely be the last year for charlie wade. it would be a miracle if they won a game this coming season. he does not have the players.

Emily posted her blog for yesterday!

    • vballfreak808 June 28, 2012 at 4:33 pm

      Sorry it was for today.

I had similar thoughts when I read the article, with two kids in the family can’t blame him. Believe that Charlie has two years left, don’t think UH would spend the money to buy out the last one.

Good thing Charlie Wade is in Dallas doing some recruiting. Hopefully someone good comes out of it.

Future Wahine Nikki Taylor went 4-1 in Ohio the last two days. Tayler Higgins starts her matches on Tuesday.

The A2 teams should be released sometime today. I think their matches start tomorrow.

Also Hagins and Kastl are both here according to Diggn Na Wahine. Not sure about Spieler and Longo but Longo should be here already.

In Shoji’s chat transcript, he mentioned that aside from the returning Ls and Longo, other DSs are still trying to walk-on. He must be referring to Spieler and Mendoza.

Hey everyone, Just wanted to let you all know that Emily’s had no internet for the last three days so she hasn’t been able to update her blog. Don’t want you to think she bailed on it! :)
