Damn looks like no first and second round at the ssc.
Look for their RPI to drop even if they win against Poly and UCSB
Poly #235
UCSB #86
To have any change at hosting they really need to go undefeated the rest of the way. That loss to Cal looks like it may cost Hawaii a top 16 seed in the end.
The only caveat is if the NCAA doesn’t rely so heavily on RPI to seed the tournament. I know last year they got a lot of criticism about it, we’ll see if it made any difference.
one loss (i.e. to Cal) is not responsible for Hawaii not being in the top 16 for seeding purposes.
gotta look at the strengths and weaknesses of the schedule as a whole. the Big West is down this year. after the non-conference portion of the schedule, Hawaii’s RPI was 11. When the Big West matches started, Hawaii’s RPI dropped to 20, and then again to 21 after last week’s matches.
it should be noted, that even with an 8-6 record, Cal’s RPI is still a healthy 48. that says a lot about the relative strength of the schedule that they’ve played so far.
Hopefully the seatings won’t be solely based on the RPI… wished we were part of the PAC 12 .. that would be MAJOR
) !
It’s like almost no one cares anymore that Hawai’i is ranked #8 on the AVCA’s Top 25 Coaches Poll. True, last year the NCAA Selection Committee stated in no uncertain terms that polls, including the AVCA’s, are given no consideration in the selection process. NONE! It is what it is.
As always, the NCAA D-1 Women’s Volleyball Committee looks at the RPI first and foremost. Then it says it takes into account a list of other factors. Some of these factors will be neutral, such as a team’s road record (which the volleyball RPI does not factor in, unlike the basketball RPI). And some of these factors will be agenda driven, such as a team’s conference affiliation.
But dudes and dudettes! It is only October 1! Selections of the 64-team field for the 2012 Volleyball Championship won’t be announced on the ESPNU selection show until Sunday, Nov. 25! That’s 2 months away! A lot can change … and will!
Two months is a lot of time to give the NCAA Selection Committee reason to respect you. #21 is what it is now. It does not have to be what it is come Nov. 25. Goooooo Bows!
Orb, most of what you say is true and I see no BS at all. One thing, tho, after last year’s uproar from the coaches, including USC’s Haley calling the committee out on national TV (Occupy NCAA, was the comment) they will be taking into account the coaches poll as a factor, albeit a small one). Rich Kern and others who know volleyball have been trying to work with the NCAA on a better selection process, including trying to get people on the committee who have a background in the sport.
It is way too early to start speculating where UH will be sent for the first week.
The other truth is .. can’t control how the other teams UH has played continued to do. St. Mary’s has some good wins. the win over Stanford carries weight. We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out.
Possible–West Coast–subs:
(PNW working southbound)
.Seattle
.Eugene
.Palo Alto
.Los Angeles
.San Diego, as an outside option
*Yes, I have strong ties to both Punahou (though I’m retired already) and Stanford (my alma mater’s no longer in need of a coach), but I know volleyball like little other in Hawai’i) that’s for sure.

Cindy needs to do something more, in strong arming the IT services personnel, regarding this blog’s disconformity. Any one at any time can say just about all he/she could conjure in the depravity of their mind; they can do so insidiously through a multiplicity of postings.
been trying to get the blog to conform. have hadnot luck.
Anybody remember Amber Kaufman?
She’s now with Woman Volley Rovaniemi.
glad she caught on. when I saw her at the alumnae match she was hoping to play VB some where.
UCSB playing Pepperdine right now, lost a very close 1st set but have an early lead in set 2
