Looks like Welch is playing…he’s listed on the Gametracker as a Set 2 starter…

    • Cindy Luis January 29, 2011 at 5:45 pm

Don’t know if they flew him out but wouldn’t surprise me.
UH was down 6-2 now up 13-8. Walker with another 3 kills.
UH pulling away at 16-11. this is where they stalled in Set 2. We’ll see if they can push through.
Never mind. up 18-11, Zemljak serving.

UH up 19-13 in Set 4. I’m guessing it’s over

  • warriorfan January 29, 2011 at 7:00 pm

That’s more like it. I am surprised Hartley played since I thought he was redshirting.

However Hunt has been hurting the team more than helping…….

  • Jogga January 29, 2011 at 7:03 pm

Thank goodness they won in 4. BTW, there are “rumors” on the blogs that Hunt stuck his middle finger to the San Diego crowd yesterday after the game and there were calls from the fans for him to be benched. Seems like it is true since it appears Wade “heard” them. So much for maturity if it is true.

    • jmy January 29, 2011 at 7:09 pm

I had heard the same thing…playing with emotion is good if it pumps you up. I think in Hunt’s case, it gets in the way.

    • Cindy Luis January 29, 2011 at 7:21 pm

I’ll ask Wade about why Hunt sat. Welch must have flown in last night OR took an early flight from L.A. the HAL flight into san Diego leaves at 1 p.m. HNL and arrives 9 p.m. SAN.

      • Cindy Luis January 29, 2011 at 7:37 pm

thought it odd about Welch. He is still in Honolulu. so don’t know who got credited with his stats. Yes, hunt did flip off someone in the crowd after the match. Wade said it was unacceptable behavior and sat him.

        • notbyreason January 29, 2011 at 8:08 pm

Good on Charlie Wade for sitting out Hunt. Good on the guys for winning.

      • Jogga January 29, 2011 at 7:54 pm

Shame on Hunt. He needs to show a little more class when he is wearing the UH uniform otherwise, it may reflect badly on the whole team. Good for Wade for sitting out Hunt. It can’t be all about wins and losses.

  • Cindy Luis January 29, 2011 at 8:12 pm

Wade said he didn’t hear about it until today. Said that it was directed against one UCSD fan who was riding Hunt all of the match and that after the handshakes, Hunt walked off the court and flipped the guy off behind his back. sounds pretty tame but Wade said he told Hunt he was sitting and that it disrespected the UH uniform and that state of Hawaii.

    • UCSDFan January 29, 2011 at 9:27 pm

Actually, what the UCSD fan said to Steven after the match was, “We’ll be here again tomorrow night, Steven, to watch you complain to the line refs!” At which time, Hunt turned around and flashed the one-way sign!

I agree that the heckling probably should be held in check….but he should be use to it by now — we know what USC and UCLA fans can do!!!

There’s nothing ‘tame’ about flipping anyone off, not when my 2 year old son is only 30-40 feet away on the court afterwards. Ring (the UCSD coach) has been benched guys in the past for far less….so hats off to the Hawaii staff for benching him. It’s the right thing to do.

Turns out you didn’t much need him anyhow…. ;) Umlauft is a an absolute beast!!!

      • Cindy Luis January 29, 2011 at 10:26 pm

thanks dad for putting it in perspective. the way Wade explained it, seemed more harmless than what your child saw. appreciate the feed back.
Wasn’t there. all I got from Friday’s radio was there was some questionable calls by the linesmen (Hawaii’s point of view). but nothing new anyway. the linesmen at UH aren’t perfect. there flaws more exposed because there’s TV replay.

    • Hapa January 29, 2011 at 9:39 pm

      Wow, laulau. :-)
      Aloha. Amizade.

  • Jogga January 29, 2011 at 10:11 pm

Wow tonight’s basketball game loss is as heartbreaking as the volleyball loss to Stanford. These UH teams keep breaking our hearts but we continue to support them big time.

  • Cindy Luis January 29, 2011 at 10:32 pm

come out for UCSB. should be a good couple of matches.

  • WarriorsSupporter January 29, 2011 at 11:14 pm

The volleyball only loss to Stanford once! I couldn’t believe what I’m hearing about Steven! I wonder how Coach Wade heard about that. What do you mean about Welch, he didn’t play so why does it say he’s there! I’m just so glad that Hartley and Cheape finally played!

  • Ron January 30, 2011 at 10:34 am

Its nice that Coach Wade can look at the big picture and make decisions that should pay off in the long run concerning his expectations of standards and behavior for his players. This league is so good from top to bottom that every match is important and thus exciting. Can’t wait until Thur.!

  • Cindy Luis January 31, 2011 at 11:25 am

RE: Welch showing up in the box … originally. Sometimes Statisticians type in a uniform number on the wrong side of the boxscore. Wade said he didn’t nocice Welch’s name until I mentioned it. he said something to the SID who then revised the box without Welch.
