Thought the Wahine played well tonight. Kaufman had a nice match (8 kills, .538, 3 aces, 3 BA) and Cubi-Otineru ws 9-1-14, .571. Good defense, too. Outdug Ohio 31-17, outblocked them 14.5-4.Hering continues to impress. Just a smart, smart player.

tonight was a great match for hawai’i. kinda worried about them in the first set but afterwards they dominated. houston needs to wake up! without her, they can’t push into the upper ranks. but i do think that if houston decides to hit ball after ball into the net and out that ferrell can come in and produce similar if not more consistent offensive numbers. kanani was great, starts kinda tentative but that’s normal for a freshman. kaufman was unstoppable even last night. mafua needs to send her the ball more often cause the passing is 100% better than the latter “kanoe kamana’o” era of wahine vball so she has the passes, just needs to utilize them now! =] and hittle is great at libero, i think she’s there to stay while aneli just fires on every ball and looks so much better than she did last year. and it was nice to see nickie thomas in there! she performed well and i think with more game time, she’ll be back to normal. hope they beat UCLA tomorrow. i expect them to do so.

I was a bit concerned watching the Penn St. match but after PSU took it to UCLA, and watching the Ohio match last night, I have high hopes for this years team. Just wondering about Amanda Simmons, has she played yet? Is red-shirting her a consideration? Where does she stand in the depth chart? There appears to be more depth this year.

doubt that he’ll redshirt Amanda. She played in Set 3 against Penn State. She was scheduled to start against PSU. but he decided Fowler had more experience. He went with Thomas for 2 sets then Fowler for 1 against Ohio.
Not sure what will happen against UCLA.

    enter nickie thomas!

she is the key right now.

tara hittle has been outasite. kaaihue when healthy may earn time as a defensive specialist, but, hittle has won this battle.

mafua took off the “deer in headlights”. good job.

houston has got to get rid of that sheepish grin when she messes up. she needs to play with more fire. you never see the great ones smile when they mess up. remember the willoughby glare? tee williams, lundqvist, et al.

an upset today is not out of realm of possibility.

Not that impressed with UCLA so far. Hard to judge because Penn State was so good and Ohio wasn’t. Same thing with Hawaii. This could be a good measuring stick.

Dave was worried about the first said but said he was happy the team didn’t panic and settled down.
