It’s not really the run-and-shoot right now …
By Dave Reardon
So what should we call it? A poster named “poidog” at Sports Hawaii came up with the idea of calling the UH offense the North Shore Offense. Makes sense since it’s custom-built for Inoke Funaki who’s from Kahuku. … Anyone like Funak-attack? Any other ideas?

Well, since this is Coach Mack’s team…
and since they finally realize that they need to tailor this offense around the skills and abilities of it’s personnel in order to succeed…
I think it should be named the ‘Mack Attack;’ an ever-evolving piece of work.
This team is made up of young men from everywhere; not just the North Shore. Let the name be internal, or let it be reflective of the whole state.

Whatever it’s called I hope they keep it and recruit a QB that can run for the future. The balance of this offense will make us even more successful as we continue to get better at it.

I like North Shore offense.
Dave,
Not to go off subject, but everyone seems to be upset with the running into the kicker penalty, but no one is mentioning Roberts facemask being grabbed flagrantly which in turn caused his feet to swing towards the floppin kicker! What’s up wid dat?

Congrats Coach Mack and Staff, they made adjustments to the strengths of our players, we need to keep this up, a balanced attack will take us further, I hope Inoke can stay healthy through out this season, our WAC title hopes are still there, La Tech is a good bunch, they beat Miss St. (SEC Team) in their season opener so the warriors need to prepare. CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN! BELIEVE!!!!!!!

the whole play-on-words with coach Mack’s name is way too overused already (mack attack, backin’ mcmackin, etc). plus, he’s not even an offensive coach.

As much as I like Inoke, I agree with the Michigan Warrior. The offense is made up by more than one person.

Since it was technically QB coach Rolovich that came up with it, maybe we should give him the dap. How about the Run-and-”ROL”out, or just the Run-and-”ROLO.”

Kind of reminds me of the spread in some respects. It’s all over the place now. How about the kapakahi offense?

yeah that’s what the team needs…some hokey, trying to be cute and funny name for the offense. nothing says “take us seriously” like Funak-attack (insert sarcasm here).
October 6th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Doesn’t really matter if his name is ‘overused’ in anyone’s opinion. He is the head coach of our team, irregardless if he’s an offensive coach or not.
Actually, what I’d really like to see is someone from any Hawaiiana studies to come up with an awesome warrior-based name for our offense, and maybe even our defense.
Let the team be named and personify the spirit of our islands.
Just throwing thoughts out there.

LOL @ the Run and ROL-out!
for those of you saying “the offense is made up by more than one person”, you guys are taking it WAY too seriously. we aren’t proposing that the term be added to the encyclopedia of football. it was just meant as a funny play on the term “West Coast Offense” and as a humorous poke at people’s need to always label things.

I don’t care what you call it…as long as its consistent and successful. I like the fact that we now have a running game, but I think the passing game makes it more fun to watch. I hope to see a better passing game emerge from this offense. That along with the smart use of the running game to manage the clock and control the game, we could be unstoppable.
October 6th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
I like Kevin’s suggestion with one tweak, maybe: “Ron and Rol”.
October 6th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Yeah guys, don’t take it too seriously. With that being said, Run and Shootz, Brah (Ron Lee’s nickname)

Inoke is from Laie not Kahuku he just went to Kahuku…MO. ST’S FINEST!!
October 7th, 2008 at 12:53 am
hey wait
its run first, then pass.
so it truly is the RUN n shoot.
shoots.
i gotta admit, that looked like the funaki of old, back in the day in laie.

for the wac refs…”flop and flag”, for oceanic cable…”got video”, for the final credits of fresno game…”towering tua”

Actually, since we’re taking plays from different playbooks to mold our offense around the abilities and skills of our players, how about “Hawaiian Blend” or just “Da Blend?” That way, no matter who runs our offense in the future, the name won’t have to change.
As for our defense… since Coach Mack loves to say “…he’s a bad mother…,” how about we call our defense “Da Mean Muthas.” LOL
So goes my compulsion to always label things.
