Kalua Noa to UH? Yes

By Dave Reardon

We’re getting some reports that speedy and tall Kaiser wideout Kalua Noa may be accepting a grayshirt scholarship offer to UH to start school in Jan. 2009. We’ll try to confirm this with Noa, who also has an offer from Portland State, in the morning.

Noa’s father, Henry, and brothers, Kilinahe and Waikaloa, all played at UH.

UPDATE: I spoke with Kalua Noa and other sources this afternoon, and he is indeed accepting a grayshirt scholarship offer from UH to start in Jan. 2009. He said he is fully qualified academically for UH.

I dont think this kalua noa kid is all that good if he were more schools would be recruiting him…..I mean come on if he really had speed and size, Pac 10 schools would be all over him……..

  2. fatokole Says:

Colt Brennan, RGM, Chad Owens, Ashley Lelie, Daniel Libre…you get the point.

Glad that you seem to be feeling better Dave!

  4. J-DOG Says:

Seen this kid play. I swear the Kaiser PA announcer kept calling his name all night. His size and speed really did stand out.

  5. Manoa Says:

That makes him perfect for us– the kind of player going under the radar with the big time schools, but with good coaching can be turned into a player for us (even an NFL player as history has shown). The fact that Portland State was recruiting him was also a plus– coaches there are Glanville and Mouse Davis where they run the same offense Ron Lee will be running, so we know there is a fit.

    Washington Post on Colt:

“Rookie Colt Brennan, rehabbing from hip surgery and hopeful of winning the job as the third quarterback, is taking part in some seven-on-seven drills but cannot yet face contact situations. Zorn said he has been “encouraged” by Brennan’s progress and Brennan said he believed he will be 100 percent in four weeks, before the expected start of camp July 20″

    Kainoa,

Wouldn’t it be great if all 105 kids on our football were heavily recruited by Pac 10 schools. Never going to happen in our lifetimes.

I guess you’re not a fan or UH football or you would that’s not how we recruit here. Some of our best player’s have come in under the radar and gone on to have NFL careers.

To knock this kid is not fair to him and his family. We welcome Kalua to the Warrior Family with open arms if that is what he chooses.

  8. nani Says:

I agree. Stop benchmarking our recruits with other conferences because in reality, they may look good on paper but its on the field that matters and we are not in the Pac 10. Look at USC…every year they gather the best but what have they done recently?

  9. bumbuchaMusubi Says:

Hey Mr. Wong…you are entitled to your opinion but why so negative?! Mr. Noa is still young, comes from a football family, so why not assume our coaches know the business of recruiting good “team” players that have the potential of further development. Nobody has a crystal ball but give the young man a chance to show what he can do. Also, I would not use the Pac 10 as your measuring rod, after all, if you remember we beat the Washington last year! Aloha and welcome to UH Mr. Noa!

  10. HawaiianKiko Says:

Just ran into former UH QB Garrett Gabriel in Star Market….he said watch out for Leon Wright to carry the ball and shake and bake with new plays by Coach Ron Lee…to open up the offense with more running plays….which will also relieve pressure on the wide outs…Go Warriors!!!!!

  11. jabba Says:

in three years kalua noa will be a name commonplace daily.

i still think that libre will be the one ripping off the yards. he has better vision and abilitiy to cut quickly. lwj is a north and south kind of guy.

  12. football 101 Says:

you should ask the boys from the team that practiced during the summer with Noa in 7on7 he was definately one of the stand outs great kid and also real humble

  13. guardian Says:

I totally agree with what Warrior Dave said about welcoming the kid to
Wsrrior Nation. I think Kainoa would have shown better judgement if he had even the slightest bit of informtion about the player before criticizing him. Just from what a few others have had to say, he sounds like he’ll be a fine addition to the team. I like any player that truly wants to play here!

  14. NelsonO Says:

    Point well made.
If we want to go back in time, we can include Rich Miano who I believe also went to Kaiser.

  15. KonaWater Says:

Sounds awesome! Can’t wait to see him break out and make every other team look silly.

  16. FRuck Fazier Says:

What has USC done? To UH: 2005, USC 63 – UH 17. 2003, USC 63 – UH 32. 1999, USC 62 – UH 7. Since 2002, USC has played in 6 straight BCS bowls, won 2 national championships, finished in the Top 5 every single year, sent a ridiculous number of players to the NFL, the best record of any program, 3 Heisman winners. The past 2 years, they’ve finished at 11-2, they’re worst record since 2002, but they still played in the Rose Bowl winning twice. What has USC done recently? They’ve been THE BEST collegiate football program in the nation. Pretty much they’ve dominated collegiate football.

Ya, UH BARELY beat Washington last year. Washington was the worst team in the Pac-10. I’m a lifelong, diehard UH fan, but realistically we are still average compared to the rest of the nation. Why? Because of the kind of recruits that UH gets. UH has never gotten a 5 star, 4 star recruit. UH barely gets 3 star recruits. Most of the recruits are either 2 star or 1 star recruits. There’s no way we can compete with the top schools in the nation. According to the recruiting experts, we’ve got a few right here in Hawaii. Te’o, Hilliard. But are the UH coaches going after them? Probably not. Are they going to sign? NO WAY. Not when the whole Pac 10, Notre Dame, and other top schools are calling.

  17. Matt Kainoa Wong Says:

I think Kalua would make a solid addition to the UH squad like his brothers. Good to keep the local boys home.
BTW, the first comment (Kainoa Wong) wasn’t me. Same name, but different mana’o.

  18. brother Says:

kalua noa a great wide receiver.he is going to spark up the uh fans

  19. hawaiihome Says:

okay guys, everyone is talking a lot about kalua noa. I played football and ran track with him. But honestly speaking Kalua is not a team player. In Football he would always goof around and make fun of kids, and tease them. After practice he would do drugs. he wasn’t someone that was a team player. In track he would always come to practice late, jog a few laps, and then complain about how his shins hurts. He would also hide if you told him to run the 4×4. That is not a team player guys. I admit I’m not as fast as Kalua, but I’m playing football in the mainland at a good college. Kalua needs to grow up and then he can be successful.
